With profound sadness, the family of Willard "Bill" Bartlett Reed is mourning his peaceful passing on July 5, 2024, in his 93rd year. Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years, Lois (MacDonald) Reed; and leaves to mourn, their three sons, David (Sandy Hodgson), William (Lynn Reed) and Robert (Shelley Bartle-Reed); as well as six grandchildren, Carly (Logan MacDonald), Kristopher, Stephen, Daniel (Alexandria Gilbert), Charlotte and Lucas; sister-in-law, Jeanette MacDonald (the late Rev Dr. J.J. Harrold Morris); and two nieces, Tracey Methven (Dave Neale) and Nicole Methven (Paul Smith). Also survived by his extended family, including Al and Lorraine Methven, who held a special place in his heart. Born in Sudbury, July 23, 1930, Bill grew up surrounded by a loving family and developed a strong work ethic early in life. He and Lois were married in 1954 and together they raised their three boys, instilling in them the values of kindness and the importance of family bonds. Bill's lifelong career in the Canadian explosives industry took them to various parts of Canada, including Manitoba, Ontario and New Brunswick, then eventually Halifax, NS. After Bill's retirement in 1992, he and Lois spent summers at their cottage in Rose Bay, NS, which they built in 1976. It became a go-to destination for family and friends, all of whom enjoyed wonderful meals around the table and walks on Hirtle's beach. Their grandchildren recall fond memories of beach days, boat rides and picnic lunches in a tree house where Granddad hoisted their lunch up to them with a makeshift pulley. Bill had a passion for golf, and could often be found on the greens where he honed his skills and forged lasting friendships. The only unkind words he ever uttered were directed at an errant golf ball. Duck hunting was another favorite pastime, and he often recounted stories of Fall hunting trips with friends at Grand Lake, NB, although it seemed his favorite part of those trips were the butter tarts made by Lois for all to enjoy. Bill's warm smile, generous heart and gentle spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity and deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. We are comforted knowing he has joined the love of his life, Lois, in eternal rest. He will forever remain in our hearts as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on August 5th, from 6-8 p.m. at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS. A celebration of life will take place on August 6th at 10 a.m. at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VON Halifax or a
