WILLEMINA SEYWERD Obituary

(née Smits) On October 19, 2024, after a short illness at Ottawa Civic Hospital, aged 95. Beloved wife of Henry Seywerd Sr. (deceased); loving mother of Henry (Nicole) and Homer (Deborah); grandmother of Theya and Tristan. Willemina was born on November 13, 1928, in Zierikzee, the Netherlands. She survived the war years in Holland and came to Canada to start a new life. She worked for many years at Centennial College in Scarborough and was very active in the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Netherlandic Studies (CAANS), especially with Dutch language instruction. We wish to thank the wonderful staff at Colonel By Retirement Residence for their care in her later years. A memorial service will be held at a later time.

Willemina was a good friend to my parents in their senior years. The three of them often got together for dinner and good conversations. They shared a lot. For that, thank you Willemina. My belated condolences to Henry, Homer, and their families. Sebastian Siebel-Achenbach, Joan Coutu, Ellen & Michèle.

Your mother was a friend of your mother in Arnhem. I met her several times when she visited my mother. Your uncle Bert was at my mother´s funeral in 2017.
My mother Jos Caspers-Bensdorp always talked with great affection about your mother.

Willemina was one of my best friends in Canada, and was my favorite stop when visiting Toronto. Willemina to me epitomized integrity and intelligence and we always had a super 'gezellige' time when we were together. My thoughts go out to Henry, Homer and the whole family.

Got to know Willemina in the “CAANS organization, and later as a friend in a small group of “Friench practice with Dutch, Belgian, German and Scottish friends! A great appreciation for culture and always a pleasure being part of her circle of friends!

We're sorry to hear of Willemina's death.
We enjoyed our conversations with her over the past year at Colonel By.
She always enjoyed the musical concert videos in the evenings and made every attempt to attend, even when her strength was failing.
