ALGUIRE, William Grenville
On Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the Toronto General Hospital, age 84 years. Beloved husband of 59 years to Ethel Alguire (nee MacIntosh). Great and kind father to Bill (Linda). Adoring, proud and generous grandfather to Michael, Cameron and Alexandra. Dear brother of Deltra (Mrs. Ralph Randlett) and of the late Elgin 'Bud' Alguire. Born June 21, 1917 at Berwick, Ontario, longtime resident of Montreal, Highland Beach, Florida and more recently Toronto. Grenville was a self-taught master tool maker who worked in the war industry during W.W. II. Later he became a master builder and developer. His legacy includes the Arthur Erickson designed theme pavilions Man in Community, Man in Health at the Montreal Worlds Fair - Expo 67. His buildings stand in Montreal, Ottawa, Hawkesbury, Cornwall and Highland Beach. He enjoyed, at one time, owning racehorses and attending country fairs, a hobby inherited from his father George, and in general, had a love and understanding of all animals. In his later years, he enjoyed sailing the Mediterranean and Caribbean on his yacht 'Theseus of Attica'. He was Clerk of Session of the Rosemere (Quebec) United Church for 9 years and was a life member of Masonic Lodge No. 7 of Montreal. Visitation will be held at the Brownlee Funeral Home, 18 Front Street, Finch, on Friday from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. (A SERVICE IN CELEBRATION OF GRENVILLE ALGUIRE'S LIFE WILL BE HELD AT THE FUNERAL HOME ON SATURDAY, MAY 18, 2002 AT 11 A.M.). Interment to follow in the Finch Community Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to Hammond Seale for his kindness during this last year.
