WILLIAM ASH Obituary
(September 7, 1946 - August 25, 2025) With great sadness, we announce Bill's passing on August 25th, at his home in Toronto. Born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Bill had a memorable childhood in Northern Ontario with his parents, Robert and Mary Ash; and his predeceased brother, Bob (Doreen). It was there that Bill learned much about mining and the stock market, which were central features of his professional and personal life. Northern Ontario also gifted Bill with a love of golf, which led him to be a member of Lambton Golf and Country Club in Toronto for more than 30 years, and curling, which led him to win the Canadian Schoolboy Championships in 1964. After moving to Toronto and starting his career at Scotiabank, Bill married Elizabeth Spears (predeceased), and they had a long and loving marriage with three children, Michael (Kelly), Tim (Katja) and Caley (Michael). Bill also leaves behind six grandchildren: Lulu, Matthew, Isla, Jordan, Claire and Malcolm. Bill was a character, always making jokes and willing to play a game of cards. He was also a man of structure (and stubbornness!): dinner was always preceded by a round or two of drinks, and fun activities at the family cottage on Georgian Bay could only happen after a morning of clearing brush. Bill will be missed for his laugh, his care for family, and his persistent assertion that the current weather was defying the laws of probability. At Bill's direction, no public service or funeral will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sharelife (Archdiocese of Toronto) would be welcome.
