BASTIEN, William James Allen (Bill)
Passed away suddenly, at the Hotel Dieu Hospital, St. Catharines, ON, on Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at 64 years of age. William J.A. (Bill) Bastien, best friend and loving husband of Elizabeth (Beth). Generous and loving father of Elizabeth Bastien and her husband Seth Berkowitz of Vancouver, BC, Micha (Raymond) Lachance and Guy (Michelle MacIntosh) Bastien, both of St. Catharines. Grandfather of Joseph Bastien, Emma and Tessa Lachance, and Kennedy and Tyler Bastien. Brother-in-law of Barbara Ellis of Edmonton, AB. Bill received his B.A. and M.Soc. from McMaster University and was a self taught and accomplished Portrait Artist. Also he was an Educator with the Lincoln County Board of Education, an Equity Employment Officer with the Public Service Commission, a Director of the St. Catharines Native Friendship Centre and the Hamilton Native Friendship Centre, completing his career in various roles with the Ministry of Transportation. As well, Bill was on the Board of Directors of The John Howard Society for 30 years. At Bill's request, cremation has taken place. His family will receive friends at the PATRICK J. DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 39 Court Street, St. Catharines, ON, on Wednesday and Thursday between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 7th, 2000 in the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria at 10:00 a.m. Rite of committal, Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. Memorial remembrances made to the Niagara Regional Native Centre, The Ojibwe Cultural Foundation or the Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated by Bill's family.
