William BRYCE Obituary

BRYCE, William Robert
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father and patriarch, Bob Bryce on May 18, 2010 at the age of 78. During his illness, Bob demonstrated courage in faith, strength of spirit, and as always, a wonderful charm. Survived by Joy, our mother and his wife of more than 54 years, 'Grandpa Bobby' enjoyed the legacy of three sons (Andrew and wife Shirley, Peter and wife Heather, and Rob and wife Donna), eight grandchildren (Peter and wife Stephanie, Joel and wife Sarah, Kevin, Jenny, Jessica, Rory, Duncan, and Hadley), and two great-grandchildren (Rylan and Elissa). Bob is also survived by his sister Bonnie Trodden and husband Jerry, of Winnipeg.
Born in Flesherton and raised in Sudbury and Ottawa, Bob enjoyed ski jump and cross country competitions for Sudbury High School and later for Carleton University. He loved downhill skiing as well and built 'the cabin' at Georgian Peaks creating fun memories with family and many great friends.
Bob enjoyed the ad business when it was fun to practice in the 60's and 70's. He dropped it all to pursue his dream with a courageous jump into the antique business. After returning to the ad game some time later, Bob continued to refinish old pine furniture. In retirement for the last 20 years, Bob enjoyed travelling with Joy to Europe where they would seek adventure without a timetable. Bob also developed a strong bond with new friends in his carving club in Ottawa, where he created beautiful winged works of art from simple blocks of basswood and butternut.
Cremation has taken place and Bob's family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home, The Valley Chapel, 20 Alice St. E., Thornbury N0H 2P0 on Thursday evening from 7 until 9 p.m.
A memorial funeral service and celebration of Bob's life will be conducted at Grace United Church, Bruce St. S., in Thornbury on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. A time of further sharing of remembrances of Bob and refreshment will be held at the family home in Thornbury following the service.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the staff of Bay Haven Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers and as your expression of sympathy, the family would ask that you honour Bob's wish and generously make a donation to the Shepherd's of Good Hope at 233 Murray Street, Ottawa, ON K1N 5M9.
Always a gentleman Dad. We love and will miss you.
