William DUNCAN Obituary

WILLIAM NEVILLE DUNCAN 'Bill' B.A. Sc., P. Eng Peacefully at Canterbury Gardens in Peterborough on Thursday November 29, 2018 at the age of 98. Predeceased by his wife, Marion (nee Lowe). Bill will be sadly missed by his daughter, Kyle (Lloyd Gray); son, Sam (Grace Dittrich); and grandsons, Andrew Duncan-McWilliams, George Gray and Daniel Dittrich-Duncan. Brother of Doris Wightman (Jack deceased) and the late Kenneth (Rosemary deceased) and the late Donald (Carol). Son of the late William and Mary Duncan. Also survived by cousins John and Paul, and many nieces and nephews. Born at home on Pickering Street in the east end of Toronto, he was a Beaches boy. He attended Adam Beck P.S., and Malvern Collegiate. He served overseas in Europe in the Corps. of Royal Canadian Engineers during the Second World War. After the war, he graduated in Mining Engineering from the University of Toronto. His career in mining and construction spanned 35 years concluding with his role as a Councilor Specialist for the Construction Safety Association of Ontario. A gifted athlete, he played football for the U. of T Varsity team and for the Toronto 'Balmy Beach' Beachers. He played hockey. During the war, he was the catcher for the Canadian Army baseball team in Italy. In retirement, he was a member of the Peterborough Golf and Country Club, where he shot his age 51 times. Bill was an enthusiastic member and several times president of the Class of 5T0 Mining Engineers who travelled widely together. He was past president of the Eels Lake Cottagers Association, and also served as a member of the executive of the Federation of Cottagers' Associations. He played bridge and over the years was a member of the Peterborough Duplicate Bridge Club, Queen of Clubs Bridge Club and The Saturday Night Bridge Club. He said he had married a special woman and lived a fortunate life. Family will receive friends and relatives at Canterbury Gardens, 1414 Sherbrooke St, Peterborough ON, on Monday, December 10, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with eulogies at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
