William FARNELL Obituary

FARNELL, William Archibald
May 18, 1922 - February 5, 2017 Bill died peacefully Feb 5th at PE Home in Charlottetown in his 95th year. He moved to PEI after his wife Margaret passed in 2011. He was attentively cared for and entertained in PEI by daughter Leslie (RN), son-in-law George Somers, and granddaughters Anne and Meghan. He is also survived by sons John (Smithers, BC) and Paul (Calgary). Bill grew up in Fergus ON, and graduated U of T in 1945 as a Mechanical Engineer. He married Margaret in Toronto in 1951, and moved to Winnipeg, Toronto, and Victoria. He was GM of Anthes Imperial, President of John Wood, Vice-President of Molsons and GSW, and CIPH Chairman 1976-77. Bill was an avid tennis player, golfer, and all-around sportsman. He built a cottage at Lake of the Woods in the early 1960s where his family spent summers exploring and boating. After moving back to Toronto, he and Margaret welcomed friends at their 1890s cottage 'Restmore' on Gloucester Pool in Muskoka. Bill was a smart, witty, and strong willed individual, capable of fixing anything. He and Margaret loved their family and many close friends. Together they traveled the world and had countless adventures. We are grateful for Bill's life, his generosity, good humor, skill, and strength. Bill and Margaret will rest where they met and grew up, in Fergus, ON.
A private service will be held in their honor later this year.
