THE HONOURABLE JUDGE WILLIAM EDWARD MACLATCHY (February 14, 1928 – October 7, 2025) The Honourable Judge William MacLatchy "Bill" passed away at the age of 97 on October 7. He died peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife, Joyce (née Allan), and his four children whom he adored: David (Rose), Doug (Shelley), Sue (Paul), and Lisa (Blake). He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: David Deeks, Megan Deeks Paabor, Meredith Bradley, Alyson MacLatchy, Will Sanson and Sophia, Adelaide and John Naprawa. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Cooper and Charlotte Deeks, John and Helen Paabor, Tommy MacLatchy and Harper, Peyton and Ford Bradley. Bill attended Lawrence Park Collegiate, U of T, and Osgood Hall Law School. He was called to the bar in 1953 and practiced law with Birks, Langton, McComiskey, and MacLatchy for 24 years. He was appointed to the Family Court of Ontario in 1977, where he sat until his retirement in 1999. He was then appointed a Deputy Judge of the Tax Appeal Court of Canada until his retirement in 2008. Bill's wit, honour, insight, and compassion penetrated every interaction with others. He touched and impacted countless lives. His unmatched ability to listen left others feeling heard, understood, and valued. These qualities mixed with a sense of adventure led to an enormous quantity of friends and fun times. Whether it was running in Marathons with Joes Joggers, taking the first and last run at Caledon Ski Club, endless travels around the world with dear friends, or laughter into the wee hours at the dining room table over a few bottles of wine and a scotch or two. Bill always knew how to have good time. There was much laughter if you were lucky enough to share in Bill's life. Bill loved his children without reservation and shared in their joys and sorrows. He loved to be involved in their lives. From early morning hockey games and swim practices to back yard rink building. Many wonderful treasured memories full of laughter were made with all his children and their offspring in Muskoka and in Florida. Bill's ultimate love was his wife, Joyce. They were life partners and whatever challenges came their way, they faced them together. They met as neighbourhood children, growing up on the same street, dated as teenagers, and were married 74 wonderful years. They took care of each other and were very seldom apart in all their time together. They were truly best friends. As per Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held. There will be a Celebration of Life at The Granite Club on November 9, 2025, 5:30–8:30 p.m. Remembrances may be made in Bill's memory to the
Charity of Your Choice.
