William MACTAGGART Obituary

MACTAGGART, William Gerald Lorne

Passed away suddenly on January 12, 2017 from heart failure in his 86th year. He is survived by his wife Marnie (nee Grant), daughter Kim (Peter), son Paul, grandchildren Kyle, Kealy, and Tristan, sister Mary Legge and many nieces and nephews.
Gerry was born in Lindsay and raised in Gravenhurst and Orillia with his sister Mary and brothers Don and Tom. He attended McMaster University until 1952 playing basketball and football where he was later inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. Soon after graduation, Gerry played for the Hamilton Tiger- Cats in their 1953 Grey Cup winning season. His competitive spirit and athletic abilities kept him active in, and loving all things sports throughout his life. He was an avid golfer, swimmer and tennis player into his later years.
Gerry loved his years working in the Etobicoke School Board as a teacher, coach and principal and was adored by his students and fellow staff. Upon retirement, he and Marnie spent summers in Georgian Bay at the family cottage and winters in Mexico and Florida with new and old friends. They travelled extensively through SE Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, soaking up the culture and enjoying new friends and experiences.
Gerry was a kind and humble man with an infectious laugh who always loved a great party, a scotch and listening to a little jazz.
A farewell party will be held at his beloved cottage on Georgian Bay this spring. Date to be announced.
