McKENZIE, William Andrew
Peacefully at London Health Sciences Centre, University Campus on Monday, July 5, 2004 in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Anne (Kennedy) for 54 years. Loving father of Jane Armstrong, Julie Gilbert, both of Edmonton, Martha White (Michael) of Burlington, and Andrea Tillmann (Robert) of Oakville. Loving and much loved grandfather of Leigh, Katie, Jennifer, Andrew, Jamie, Caroline, David and Michael. Predeceased by son-in-law G. Murray Armstrong in 1999. Survived by sister Maxine Kenny (Tom) of Sarnia and brother-in-law James Kennedy, QC (Judith) of Toronto. Born in Sarnia, 1923, he attended Sarnia Collegiate Institute, followed by St. Andrew's College in Aurora. After 2 years service with the Canadian Army, he attended the University of Western Ontario where he graduated in 1948. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Society. He owned the Leamington Post and News for several years and then he moved to London where he owned Kraft Tapes Ltd. After the sale of this company, he owned radio station CHOK in Sarnia for several years. He spent the rest of his business life in investment management. He became a director of four companies including Toromont Industries in Concord, Ontario where he was a long-standing member until age 75 when he retired. He served as Chair of the Investment Committee of Foundation Western and was on that board from 1985-1996. His father, A. D. McKenzie of Sarnia was a well-known newspaper publisher of four dailies. Friends may call on Thursday, July 22 from 3 – 6 p.m. at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street at Richmond, London. A memorial service will be conducted at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington Street at Dufferin Avenue, London on Friday, July 23 at 1:30 p.m. by Rev. Robert C. Ripley. Memorial contributions to Foundation Western (W. A. McKenzie Endowment Fund), Room 11, Alumni Hall, University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario N6A 5B9 would be gratefully acknowledged.
