William PATRYLUK Obituary

PATRYLUK, William 'Bill'

With Respect:

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and beloved husband, William 'Bill' Patryluk, who died peacefully at his home in Surrey, BC, on April 5, 2016, at the age of 90. Dad will be deeply missed, always remembered and respected.

Bill is survived by his wife, Irene (Taylor) Patryluk; children, Perry (Susan) Patryluk, Regina, SK, Marlene (Jim) Dorgan, Abbotsford, BC, William T. Patryluk, Surrey, BC; grandchildren, Jamie (Lauren), Sara (Curtis), Jesse (Jie), Anna (Luke), Carly, Scott (Danielle); great-grandchildren, Maggie, Mason, Khristian, Avery, Bodhi, Kayde, Bella, Felix; sister-in-law, Olyne Patryluk and children, Tery, Bob and Marianne.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Helen Patryluk (Regina); his parents-in-law, Oswald and Barbara Taylor (Vancouver) and brother, Alex Patryluk (Regina).

Bill was born on September 20, 1925, in Regina, Saskatchewan. He graduated from Balfour Collegiate in Regina and almost immediately joined the navy. Stationed at Prince Rupert, he often joked that with his dad in the army, his brother in the air force and him in the navy, the Axis enemies surrendered within a few months of learning that fact.

He married his high school sweetheart, Irene Taylor, in 1947. After living in Vancouver for a short period, Bill and Irene moved back to Regina and Bill began a long career (35 years) working for SaskTel and rising to a position of Section Manager and Controller in the Finance Department. Bill retired in 1983 and in 1985 Irene and Bill moved to Surrey, BC, where they enjoyed many years of retirement, rekindled love and the joy of life. His children and grandchildren remember him as a gentle, quiet and patient person who had a positive outlook on life and a great sense of humor. He was very proud of his family and the success they have achieved in life and was never too busy to listen or to help.

Bill senior was a man of sport and accomplished and avid curler. He loved nature and spent hours in the garden (his dill pickles are legendary). When he was younger, he enjoyed dancing, beer and barbequing at Regina beach with his brother, Alex, golfing, curling and the social activity that accompanied those sports. He enjoyed spending time with family and loved his wife more than anyone can understand. Bill Sr. was particularly fond of family gatherings where he would provide the 'family discount rate' and share his always well-stocked homemade beer. He was a passionate Saskatchewan Roughrider fan and enjoyed watching most sports on TV. Bill will be remembered by his many friends in many different ways but they always will be richer for the privilege of knowing him. He was a (Telephone) Pioneer for over 69 years, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a member of the Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Surrey.

A Funeral Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 15, 2016, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2350 - 148th St., Surrey, BC. Viewing is Thursday, April 14, 2016, from 2:00-5:00 p.m., at Valley View Funeral Home, 14660-72 Ave., Surrey, BC. Pastor Peter Hanson will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Veterans Association.
