WILLIAM POWELL Obituary

1959 - 2025 William Ross Powell (Ross) died peacefully at home, after playing 36 holes of golf and courageously meeting many medical challenges over the years. He leaves a legacy of love, perseverance, and a golf swing that was - on most days - excellent! Born in Calgary, Ross was the beloved son of John and Gail Powell; and dear brother to Lori (Ted Williams) and Michael (deceased). He is sorely missed by his sons, Stewart and Spencer; and fondly remembered by their mother, Jan MacKay. Ross' entrepreneurial spirit led him to a myriad of eclectic jobs, from MD Management to Scotiabank and many private ventures. His passion for golf meant he believed life should be played one hole at a time - preferably with a cold drink, good friends, and no witnesses to his triple bogey. His close-knit group of friends from his days at Upper Canada College and the Briars Golf Course meant the world to him and the family would like to thank them for their support. Ross lived life with dignity, courage, optimism and sharp wit. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Kidney Foundation. Thank you. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., on Saturday, August 16th, from 2-3 p.m. A Chapel Service will begin at 3 p.m. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca.

Yesterday

Ross was a classmate of mine. He had a wonderful attitude towards his friends and a great smile. My condolences to the Powell family. He is missed.

Who knew that a chance business referral from our dear friend "Red" would reintroduce me to the infamous Powel clan from the Briars G & CC. Ross became a dear friend and golfing buddy with the odd poker game thrown in. Wonderful memories of our time together, sadly a great friend gone far too young. Rest in peace my friend, DR

To the Powell family, I am sorry to have heard of this quite shocking news.
I am happy to share with Ross being an Old Boy together from high school but also in recent years a fellow golfer with Ross at The Briars Golf Club. Ross was a great guy to play with, was a very good golfer and I always enjoyed his unique humour, and as well the perspective on life from the point of view of Ross Powell. We played together often on Thursdays amongst a great group of Men´s Thursday golfers. He will be missed greatly from this group.
A quick story very recently about Ross which shows one of his true colours: as recently as three weeks ago 12 guys spent a golf overnight at Wooden Sticks. During dinner that night, one of the gents was not feeling well, probably from sunstroke, and wanted to returned home but did not have a car. Without a blink of an eye, Ross too got up from the table and drove him a half hour home to his wife.
That was one of Ross´s great attributes.
God bless you Ross, and all of the Powell family too.
Tim Higgins.

A life worth living is to be remembered. We will remember the Thanksgiving dinners , the Christmas dinners and all the good time in-between. Ross will be always remembered for his quick wit, outgoing personality and genuine ability to make everyone feel thay they are part of the family. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. Heartfelt condolences Gail & Lori and family
