WILLIAM ROONEY Obituary
October 9, 1931 – January 27, 2026 We are heartbroken to announce that William (Bill) passed away peacefully at Amica Bronte Harbour in Oakville on January 27, 2026, aged 94. He was born in Regina, the son of Marie and Stanley Rooney. Bill was the third of three children for Stanley and Marie, including Patrick Rooney (d. 1998, Verna - d. 2009), and Stanley Rooney (d. 2013, Maria – d. 2021). He leaves behind his four children, Bob (Christine) Rooney, David (Judy) Rooney, Susan Rooney and Kevin (Paula) Rooney; four grandchildren, Laura (Josh) Rooney, Christopher Rooney, Kathleen (Jake) Rooney and Liam Rooney; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Annie Eagen. After graduating with a commerce degree from the University of Manitoba in 1963, Bill began a successful and prosperous career with Canadian General Electric (CGE) where he ran several divisions including small appliances, lighting and major appliances. In early 1977, Bill oversaw the merger of the appliance businesses of CGE and GSW Inc. to form the Canadian Appliance Manufacturing Company Ltd. (Camco). In connection with the merger, Camco also acquired the appliance business of Westinghouse Canada Limited. Bill served as Camco's first President. Bill instilled his work ethic in his children including his motto that "if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing well".Bill loved spending time with family, being on the golf course, playing bridge and cross-country skiing. He was a longstanding member of Toronto's Lambton Golf and Country Club and his many successes on the golf course included five ""holes in one"" and a rare double eagle. A private celebration of life will be held for family this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
