WILLIAM WADDELL Obituary

July 31, 1927 – July 11, 2025 William "Bill" Duncan Waddell passed away peacefully, in Toronto, Ontario, on July 11, 2025, at the age of 97. A long-time resident of Toronto, Bill was the beloved father of Bill (Trina), Jim (Ela), and Laura (Mike); and a cherished grandfather to Maryn, Cory, Zachary, Harrison, Liam, Allie, and Ginny. "Pa," as he was affectionately known to his family, was well known for his unwavering love of the British Monarchy, conservative politics, and the military. Lt. (Ret'd) Waddell was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Military Institute (RCMI), and - quite unfathomably, some would say - a devoted fan of Labatt's 50. An avid outdoorsman in his earlier years, "Woodsy" Waddell was never happier than when working on his farm or at the cottage. He remained remarkably active well into later life, including driving to Florida for winter stays well into his 90s. His happiest times were always spent in the company of his family - sipping a beer, providing an opinion, sharing a story, and flashing his award-winning grin. He will be sorely missed, but his was a life well lived, and his memory will endure. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Yesterday

Bill's guidance to me, early in my career, was very important as I launched a successful corporate life insurance business. But my favourite memory was a day bailing hay at his farm in Owen Sound. Rest well, my friend.

Bill always treated the Jefferson family so well. His friendship was much valued, his counsel needed and respected. He set a standard of professionalism in his business that motivated others to attempt to follow. He will be missed!
