YEATES, William (Bill) Howard
Passed away suddenly, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, on Friday, December 17, 2004, age 81. The eldest son of the late Howard and Helen Yeates of Hamilton, Ontario, Bill served as an artillery officer in World War II. In 1948 he graduated from the School of Business Administration at the University of Western Ontario. In the illustrious business career that followed, Bill worked at IBM Canada, later became president and CEO of Underwood-Olivetti, and then president of Dictaphone Canada Limited. In the 16 years prior to his retirement, he turned to association work as president of the Roads and Transportation Association of Canada in Ottawa. Bill was also an active member of Rotary Club in Ottawa and later in Toronto (Leaside). Bill leaves behind his loving wife and life partner of 57 years, the former Dorothy Marr of Truro, Nova Scotia, along with their beloved son Jim (Mary Jane) of Whitby, Ontario, and two cherished grandchildren, Bryan and Christine. Also surviving are younger brothers, Allan (Charlotte) of Oldsmar, Florida and Robert (Betty Ann) of Thornhill, Ontario. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21st. A service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, December 22nd at one o'clock.
