Wordie Hetherington
Wordie Hetherington 1917 - 2008 The family is saddened to announce that Wordie passed away November 5th with his family gathered around him. He was very much loved and will be greatly missed by his wife Maurine, daughter Diane (Joseph), sons Donald (Anne), David (Lee), Lloyd (Denise), 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was the last survivor of his immediate family. Wordie was President and CEO of Ferranti Packard Electric, based in Toronto, for many years. He was passionate about community service and was very active on the Board of the Toronto YMCA and as President of the Weston YMCA for nearly fifty years. He served St Luke's United Church in Etobicoke in many capacities. He was loved by the Church community and fondly known as 'Mr. St. Luke's'. Wordie also served as Chairman of the Board of the Amici Chamber Ensemble of Toronto. The family wishes to thank Dr Dipprizzita and the nurses at the palliative care unit of the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga for their compassionate care and support. Visitation will take place at St. Luke's United Church - 516 The Kingway, Etobicoke (located at the corner of The Kingsway and Kipling Ave) - on Sunday November 9 from 7 pm to 9 pm. A memorial service will be held in the morning of Monday November 10, at 11 am, at St. Luke's United Church followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the memorial fund of St. Luke's United Church or to the Greater Toronto YMCA .
