I´m so sad to read this...it´s almost a year later, & I´m only seeing this news now. I was friends with Zavis & his late wife Maruska for many years...since the 1980s. We had many dinners & good times together. They were like a second set of parents to me, sharing their knowledge & advice, & telling me wonderful stories of their travels. I really looked up to them...they opened my eyes to the world. About 10 years ago, Zavis & I lost touch, & I assumed he no longer wanted to continue the friendship. I hope the family will receive this note...even though almost a year has passed, they have my sincere condolences. I am so fortunate to have had both Maruska & Zavis in my life...they were good friends. I will treasure the many happy memories & times I shared with them.
Sincerely,

I first met Zavis Zemen about 20 years ago at the Munk School of Global Affairs of the University of Toronto. As we are both Engineers, we had many things in common to talk about. We continued to meet often as we both lived near one another at Bloor & Spadina, Toronto.
I wish to express my sincere condolences to his family for his passing away at 85 on March 13, 2023.
With my best wishes,
Professional Engineer 1976
