Edward ARCURI Obituary

Passed away early in the morning of Saturday July 17, 2021 after a five year struggle with Alzheimer's at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy, daughter Stacy (Bob), son Mark (Shona), granddaughters Sarah and Samantha, sisters Barb, Cece (Murray) and many nieces, nephews and their children. He was born in Timmins Ontario and always claimed he wasn't a great student. So it was surprising that he chose to become a teacher. He attended Teacher's College in North Bay where he met and married Peggy. Ed had a number of careers - Teacher, Principal, Pharmaceutical Salesman and Realtor but eventually he came back to teaching. He retired as a senior public school Counsellor. Learning was very important to him. He earned a Bachelor of Art from Wilfred Laurier University and a Masters of Education from Niagara University in Lewiston, New York. He also enjoyed being physically active; walking his dog for miles, cross country skiing (which he taught) and golfing. He was a very active member of North Halton Golf club especially after he retired. Classical music was something that he enjoyed after learning to play the clarinet in high school. During the 70's to mid 80's he was very involved with amateur theatre in Georgetown. In 2015, he and Peggy moved to Guelph to live across the street from Mark and his family. We would like to express our deep appreciation and thanks to the staff at Fergus Caressant Long Term Care facility for making the last two years of Ed's life meaningful for him. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com. Donations in Ed's name can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

I loved this man. He was a guidance councilor, if I remember correctly, at R. H. Lagerquist in Brampton. In 1993 and 1994, he was such a source of comfort for me. I had a very difficult school life in middle school, and he was the one warm, caring teacher out of the lot. Very sad I was unable to see him afterward. Had I known he was still among us until 2021, I would have reached out! I hope his family is well. For now, I will bid farewell to his exceptional sense of humour, and whit. I apologize for this message being 3 years late.

I have such fond memories of having Mr. Arcuri as my teacher in grade 8 at Byngmount Public School in Mississauga. Many years later on several occasions I bumped into him backstage of one of the community theatre plays I was involved in. He always had a supportive and complimentary word to say.. the last time we caught up was after a show in Georgetown. He came and looked for me in the dressing room. We chatted for 15 minutes. Said out goodbyes. Then he disappeared just as he arrived. That was the last time I saw him. He will always have a special place in my heart. Until we meet again. RIP Mr. Arcuri. My condolences to his family and friends.

My deepest sympathies Peggy, and family. Ed was a wonderful person and an incredible teacher. I can remember so well back in 1975 as a student of his he always had a great sense of humour and incredible wit. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons I kept in touch all these years. I feel very fortunate to have had him as a teacher. Glad we were able to visit in 2018 when we returned to Canada. I know he will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched. RIP Dear sir Ed .

He was one of my teachers from Byngmount Senior Public School. He was a wonderful teacher. When he found out I originally came from NB, whenever he seen me, he would call me his distant cousin. He will be Greatly missed by all who knew him. My sympathies to the family.

I worked with Ed for several years at Robert H. Lagerquist P.S. He was always entertaining and really cared for the students he worked with. I will always remember his handshake trick! As many of his former colleagues and I have said, he made going to work fun. He will be missed, but his memory will live on in all the lives he touched.

Brian and I were fortunate to live next door to Ed and Peg for 15 years. Ed always made time to talk, make jokes; essentially Ed was everyone’s friend, and he always encouraged the neighbourhood kids to call him ”Uncle Eddie”!
Ed loved to cook, take care of his garden, walk his Lab, golf with his buddies. Ed was a happy person and everyone always had fun when he was around.
While Ed didn’t do a lot of acting, Georgetown Little Theatre benefitted from his comic style in several of their plays. Ed even was known to do several paid TV ads.
Georgetown and all his friends benefitted from Ed’s presence. We missed him after he left Georgetown but hope his last years were happy for him.
Ed:RIP!

I worked at The Club at North Halton for a long time when Ed was a member. I remember him always having candy in his pocket for me and the rest of the staff. And listening to him and the other members joking banter back and fourth is something I still talk about to this day and how funny it was. He always had a smile on his face. We will miss all you at The Club Ed.
