David FONSTAD Obituary

FONSTAD, David Arthur On Monday, February 14, 2022 David Fonstad passed away at the Hospice at Glengarda in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 87 years old. David was born October 30, 1934 in Torquay, Saskatchewan to Olaf and Mary Fonstad. He received his education at a one-room farm school until grade 9 before finishing his schooling at LCBI High School in Outlook, SK. After graduation, David met his first love, Melvia McMillan and they were married in June of 1958. They had four children, Arvid, Terry, Natalie, and Keith. After careers as an electrician, dairy farmer, and healthcare administrator, David retired in Melfort, SK. It was in Melfort that Melvia passed away from cancer. David found his second love and married Frances Mack in October of 1997. David and Frances continued to live together in Melfort until their health would not allow. David loved the outdoors and was happiest when hunting, camping, horseback riding, fishing, gardening, or building something. David believed strongly in supporting the community and spent many volunteer hours in each community he lived. David also had a deep and loving relationship with God – even when his faith was challenged, he continued to trust in God and live by His teachings. David was always there for his family, providing support and guidance. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always looked forward to visits and hearing their stories. He was predeceased by his mom and dad; wife Melvia; sisters Elna (Richard) Hettrick and Leila (Ken) Peterman; brother Edgar (Betty) Fonstad; and daughter-in-law Kathy Fonstad. He will always be remembered and cherished by his wife Frances; his children Arvid (Teri) Fonstad, Terry (Sandra) Fonstad, Natalie (Clint) Wasmuth, and Keith (Christina) Fonstad; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother Russel (Olive) Fonstad; sister Mary Ann (Earl) Nostbakken; sister-in-law Marguerite (Gary) Lawrenz; and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members. A Celebration of David's Life was held on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Outlook, SK. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice at Glengarda through the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation. Arrangements are in care of the Outlook Funeral Chapel, 306-867-8255. __________________________________________________
