Joy JOHNSTON Obituary
JOHNSTON, Joy Joy was born May 23, 1919 and raised on a farm near Strongfield. She attended Normal School and taught for 4 years. She married Roy in 1940 and together they raised 6 children on the farm. She was a teacher at heart, an avid reader, a seamstress, crafter, gardener and liked nothing more than to be surrounded by family. She was a curler, bowler and card player. Music was an integral part of Roy and Joy's life, they ensured their children received a music foundation. They enjoyed dancing and hosting dance and card parties. Friends and relatives filled their home and there was always room for more plates on Mom's dinner table. Mom generously gifted her beautifully hand-made quilts to many, we'll be forever enveloped in her warmth. She delighted in the hours and hours of joy she shared with her grand- and great-grand children. Each of them have special memories of playing games with Gramma. We learned from Mom that family is the rock that keeps us grounded and the glue that holds us together. Joy is lovingly remembered by her family: Audrey (Gery) Harris, Clifford Johnston, Ralph Johnston & Lynne (Mark) Gorgchuck; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; son-in-law, Peter Blashill; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy; two daughters, Shirley Johnston & Lorraine Blashill; two brothers, Bill and Don Thompson; daughter-in-law, Lil Johnston; and by her parents, Elmer & Shirley Thompson. At Joy's request there will not be a formal funeral. Interment will take place in the Hawarden Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are in care of The Outlook Funeral Chapel 306-867-8255 __________________________________________________
