HOVDESTAD, Larry 1945 - 2021 Larry Didrick Hovdestad was born to Joe and Lydia Hovdestad in the Swift Current Hospital on March 24, 1945, the sixth child and second son. He lived with his family on the farm east of Stewart Valley, Sask., in the Hovdestad School District, except for 7 years when the family moved to Elbow, Sask. to be with Larry's maternal grandmother, Karen Overlid after his grandfather, Peter Overlid, died. The family moved back to the farm in 1957 and Larry completed his education at the Hovdestad School and graduated from the Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook, Sask. He received his Electricians papers in Calgary and spent most of his career in Calgary, Outlook, and Saskatoon. It was in Saskatoon where he met the Love of his Life, Wendy Ganes and they were married in 1999. After only 13 years of marriage, Wendy passed away and Larry is now reunited with her in Heaven. One of the joys in life for Larry was music and he had a beautiful tenor voice. He rarely missed an opportunity to sing whether it be with his siblings, a choir, a solo or the male quartet, Fisherman's Friends with whom he sang in Saskatoon and area. They recorded a CD which is now a treasure to many. He was always involved in his church and loved the Lord. We know he is now rejoicing and singing with his friends and family in the Heavenly Choir. Larry taught us all that a simple life with few wants and needs can be a satisfying and happy life. He was very content with the basic needs and wanted little else. He accepted life as it played out for him and never complained. He was a willing helper whenever it was needed and had a kind, loving and caring disposition. He loved his many nieces and nephews and had a special bond with many of them. Larry was predeceased by his wife Wendy, parents Joe and Lydia, his sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Vern Olson, and brother-in-law Myron Germo. He is survived by his siblings Delaine (Ron) Olson, Kae Germo, Lorne (Darlene) Hovdestad, Karen (Don) Moench, Wanda (Larry) Moffat, Terry (John) Erickson, and Tim (Rondi) Hovdestad as well as dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins. We will all miss his love, his smile, and his singing. We wish to say a special Thank you to the loving and caring staff at the Outlook and District Health Centre, Long Term Care where Larry spent his last 18 months. We were blessed to have you take care of our brother. A private family Service of Remembrance will take place at a later date.
