LARSON, Arlo Juhl
July 3, 1923 – April 27, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our mentor, and inspiration, Arlo Juhl Larson, on April 27, 2024, at Outlook and District Health Centre. Arlo (Dad) was born to Albert Larson and Johanna Larson (nee Madsen) in Broderick on July 3, 1923. He was the fourth oldest in a family of six and the last to leave this earth. With the completion of his education, Dad was committed to farming with his aging father until he was joined, after the war, by his older brother Marner Larson. They were very hard-working cattle and grain farmers. In later years Dad donated the grain production from a 1/4 section of land for 14 growing seasons to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Dad always loved to socialize and dancing was a big part of this. Dances in Hanley became his preference. That is where he met and eventually married his favourite partner Margaret Strouts in 1950 and they danced through life for 64 years until Mom's passing in 2015. Whether in Watrous or Waikiki dancing and their many friendships, had kept them young at heart. They raised their three children north of Broderick in the same farmhouse that Dad was raised in. He is survived by his children, Arlette Tilk (Blaine Knapik), Berwyn Larson (Brenda), and Adele Larson (Bill Remphrey, recently deceased); grandchildren Ryan Tilk (Debbie), Chelsey Tilk, Brendan Tilk (Jaclyn), Lyndsey Larson (Sylvia Frisch), Laura Larson (Paul Rundle) and nine great-grandchildren. We will all miss his many stories and the 100 years of accumulated wisdom that he regularly imparted to us, especially his love of the outdoors, fishing, and traditions like making lutefisk. His Funeral Service will be held at Saskatchewan River Church on May 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM with fellowship to follow. A private family interment will be at the Outlook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Arlo's memory to Luther Place or the Outlook and District Health Foundation with our gratitude to both.
