April 22, 2024
Peter James Ormiston was born August 11, 1956, in Eastbourne, England. Born to two veterans of WWII, Peter emigrated with his parents, brother, and sister to Canada in 1959. The young family eventually settled in Outlook where Peter spent a large portion of his youth. As a teenager he trained and worked as a lifeguard, the beginning of a lifelong passion for being in or on the water. Excelling in his studies, Peter entered university, further developing his keen intellect and showing his flair for debate in both academic and social circles. With his European heritage and fluency in French, he also loved to travel to the continent, where he continued to study while living in Nice, France, over a period of 9 months. He then returned to Canada, this time to Montreal. He spent 3 years working as a film developer, enhancing his knowledge of French and the French Canadian culture in his free time. He found his niche in the study of philosophy, and upon his return to Saskatoon, he completed his BA in the subject at U of S. In his later years, Peter remained active in the Francophone community through French Toastmasters, live events, and board membership in the Francophone Parents Association. In 2001, Peter married Pat Tymchatyn, and several years later they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Tasia. Peter was an engaged and creative father, husband, and sibling constantly, sometimes obsessively, preparing for the next activity, voyage, or culinary delight, to share. In addition to swimming, Peter loved being on the water, and spent time canoeing, kayaking, and sailing whenever a lake or river was available. He was an adventurer, and would bring along anyone he could to explore, camp, or undertake road trips. In the early 2000's, the family began a tradition of reuniting at Anglin Lake yearly, where Peter took full advantage of his skills in boating, socializing, cooking, and playing games with family. Peter spent over 30 years working at Kirkhall at the University of Saskatchewan, as a caretaker, a role in which he found endless opportunities to chat, laugh, and debate, establishing lifelong friendships. If you ever wanted to know what was going on around the building, he could always fill you in. Peter will be remembered for his quick wit, enthusiasm for discovery of new things, and love of socializing with friends and family. He is survived by his wife Pat Tymchatyn, his daughter Tasia Ormiston, and his siblings Liz Ormiston (Ian Rogers), Mary Ormiston (Lorenzo Dupuis), Katy Ormiston, Alice Ormiston (Don Denaburg), John Ormiston, and Deborah Douglas (sister-in-law). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as everyone whose life he made brighter. He is predeceased by his parents Helen (Fleming), Tom Ormiston, and his brother Andrew Ormiston. Peter passed away peacefully at home on April 22nd, 2024, after a battle with cancer. The funeral was held at Park Funeral Home on Saturday, April 27th, at 10 am.
