October 29, 2023
Roy Tomecek, age 90 of Outlook, Saskatchewan passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the Long-Term Care facility in Outlook. Roy was born to Annie and John Tomecek, the youngest of 6 children. He was born on the farm near Glenside, Sk. Roy attended Geneva School and Glenside School. His report cards indicate he was a very good student and on later report cards showed a strong interest in science. Records show from June of 1966 to November of 1967, he worked as an engineer in Saskatoon. Also, Roy and John Tomecek took over the Imperial Oil dealership from Jim Lamont. Following that Roy went to work for the Alfalfa Cubing plant near Broderick, Sk. Through the years Roy lived with his mother giving her life extended independence and helped her maintain a huge garden. Roy was a keen fisherman, enjoyed his coffee row with friends, sitting on his stool at "Noisy Jim's" café or travelling to Saskatoon to catch up with those moved away, curling, playing cards and pool. There's plenty of old photographs with a fish and fishing buddies. As nieces and nephews, we remember Uncle Roy as a quiet and private individual that hid a good sense of humour. As kids we have memories of playing cards as he smiled and would change the rules. Or having Roy and Uncle George make Christmases better with presents and goodies, and spending time going over their coin collections from around the world. He maintained a keen interest in world events all through the years leading to very thoughtful well-informed discussions on our visits. Roy was a quiet giver to the community. He supported many projects and organizations wanting no public recognition. Roy was predeceased by his siblings – Mildred (Milada/Milady) and husband Stan Bartusek, John and wife Marjorie, George, Adeline and husband Ben Ripka, Elmer who is survived by his wife Donna. Lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren. As to Roy's instructions there will be no formal service of any kind. His request for his final resting place will be with his parent's graves at the Jan Hus Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Jan Hus Sk. Preservation Society Inc.
