Vivian AXNESS Obituary

AXNESS, Vivian (nee Peters) March 4, 1930- January 6, 2018 It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Vivian Axness in Nanaimo Regional Hospital on January 6, 2018 with her family at her side. Vivian was born in Warman, SK to parents John and Catherine (nee Friesen) Peters. Vivian was the fifth youngest of 12 children. Vivian was predeceased by her husband Gordon Axness, three brothers and seven sisters. She is survived by her son Irwin Axness of Nanaimo, BC; Emil Axness (Veronica) of Langley, BC; and David Axness (Patricia) of Nanaimo, BC; sister Audrey Robertson (Albert) of Ponoka, AB; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. Vivian married Gordon on November 6, 1947 at Weldon, SK. They then moved to St. Paul, MN until the spring of 1948. Here Gordon and Vivian stayed with Warren and Mrs. Berger, a lawyer who later became the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. A close and lasting friendship resulted. In 1948, after the pleading of Gordon's parents in Kinistino, SK, Vivian and Gordon returned to Kinistino to help on the family farm. While in Kinistino they had three sons, Irwin, Emil and David. Then in 1956 Gordon and Vivian moved to Conquest, SK to farm. In 1999 after Gordon's passing, Vivian moved to the Axness residence in Conquest and then to Fiske, SK in 2004. In 2009 Vivian and her late sister Shirley Cloverdale moved to Nanaimo, BC. The Axness residences were visited often by relatives and friends, many of who called them a second home. Vivian took an active part in the farm, always having a large garden and helping tend to all sorts of livestock and poultry. Vivian was also active in the Conquest community and loved to visit family and friends and have them at her home. All who visited were given a very warm welcome and were provided with excellent meals, accommodation and friendship. Vivian very much enjoyed her travels throughout Canada and the United States and even in her last six months she flew to Alberta to visit relatives and friends and also went on a road trip to the Seattle, WA area to visit her nieces. Vivian will be interred with her husband Gordon, who she was married to for 48 years. A Graveside Service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 8th Street East, 1st right past Briargate Road, Saskatoon, SK on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. __________________________________________________

To the Axness Family,

Sending you our thoughts in memory of your mom. We were so blessed to count them as true friends when they would come to our restaurant in Outlook
(Modern Cafe) on a Saturday night as was the regular routine of the farming community. They enriched our lives with their quiet elegance and humour. They are truly missed.

So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing Irwin. I recall meeting your Mom and Dad in Saskatoon my years ago on one of our audit trips. Very nice people. Our condolences to all the family.
