Barbara Jean CROMIE

CROMIE, Barbara Jean (Nee Cavanagh) It is with profound sorrow that the family of Barbara Cromie announces her passing on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Peterborough, Ontario. She was born at St. Joseph's Hospital, Peterborough on June 1, 1952. She is survived by her loving husband JD Cromie, for the past 35 years. Barb's parents were Joseph Cavanagh (deceased) and Jean (Twomey) Cavanagh of Peterborough, Ontario. Barb's dear sister, Kate (Cavanagh) Lines and stepdaughter Cheryl (Lines) Myers. Her dear brother, Gerald (Gerry) Cavanagh and his wife Barb (Rath) mourn their loss as do their children Tracy (John) Dimock, Amy Cavanagh and Amanda (Warren) Prentice. Grand-nieces Megan, Emma and Madison Dimock and Gracie, Avery and Claire Prentice miss their beloved ""Bo"". Stepchildren Shannan and Jay Cromie share their father's grief also. Also mourning Barbs loss is a dear friend, Wendy Hampton, who is like a sister. They have been friends since high school and their love of horses cemented their friendship. Barb attended St. Martin's Catholic Elementary School in Ennismore, Ontario and Crestwood Secondary School in Peterborough. After graduation, she was employed for many years with Canadian General Electric in Peterborough, Vancouver B.C. and Meadowvale, Mississauga. She retired from Stepan Canada, Orillia in 2010. In retirement Barb volunteered in the Foundations Department at Peterborough Regional Health Services. She loved winter vacations with her family and friends. Barb and JD had wonderful trips together to Ireland, China and Newfoundland. Barb was a horse lover from the time she was a child. After retiring, she loved going riding with her great-niece Maddie. Her most cherished awards came when she won four ribbons at a horse show in 2015. She said ""not bad for someone who hasn't competed in over 40 years."" Barbara's family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Toronto General Hospital, Peterborough Regional Health Centre - Palliative Care and St. Elizabeth's Home Care. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church, 513 Ennis Rd., Ennismore. Interment, St. Martin's Cemetery. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Peterborough Regional Health Services, Foundations Department.
