Dear Julie, I was just looking up your name, thinking of you and came upon the obituary for Basil. I am sorry you and your family have lost such a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. When we were still teenagers, you were so taken by Basil. I remember it well. I hope that you are doing well and coping with your grief and those of your family. I am thinking of you.

Ruth and I are so sorry to hear of Basil's passing. We were such good friends while we lived in Peterborough, sharing a love of medical politics and good wine. I always looked forward to catching up on Peterborough news when I sat with him at OMA Council meetings and seeing Julie at Past-Presidents' dinners. Our condolences to the entire family.

I have known Bas since residency years at Kingston General. Bas was Chief Resident when I was Charlie Sorbie's Fellow. I was junior to Bas and he always went out of his way to teach me new wrinkles in the management of Ortho cases. Although we never practised together again, we remained friends and requently crossed paths at meetings and reminisced about our time at KGH. Bas was an excellent surgeon, a superb teacher and a fine individual. I'm the better for having known him. Sincere condolances to Julie and family. Merv Letts
