Brian HOWE Obituary

On 20th November, 2021, (Gordon) Brian Howe (just shy of his 87th birthday) died somewhat unexpectedly at Peterborough Regional Hospital where he was tended to by the most compassionate, respectful and caring nurses. His life was extended over the past 20 years thanks to a bevy of specialist Doctors and Surgeons, but none more stalwart than Dr. Hardy Friesen who was by his beside every day whenever he was in hospital.

Although he was born and raised in England, he proudly referred to himself as Canadian as Canada became his home for more than 60 years with Dorothy, his Canadian-born bride.

After a lengthy policing career (first as a Bobby in London, England, followed by service with Hamilton Wentworth Regional Police), Brian brought the first Tim Hortons Franchise to Peterborough. He spent the past 40 years loving every minute of his second career. A man who bled coffee, he loved his staff members and lived for his conversations with his customers—if he didn't know you before you walked in the door, he wouldn't forget you once you stepped inside.

He was a large man in both stature and personality, but if you had to ask, "Who are you?" his joking reply was, "It's Brian Howe. Howe. Not 'Who'."

Brian leaves behind too many friends and family to mention in one notice.

As per his wishes and his last words, "Don't cry over anything that can't cry over you", there will be no visitation or funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. Condolences to the family can be made through the funeral home online at www.CommunityAlternative.ca

To know Brian was to love Brian. He was one of the sweetest, funniest, caring and generous colleagues that I ever grew to love. I remember dancing with him in the station lunchroom about 3:00am one nightshift as he entertained us by standing on a tabletop to pretend he was the tallest man in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records. This world needs more Brians...just like him. He was an angel on earth and now he's traded up in the game to hang out with the celestial ones. I am a better person because of you Brian and will continue to cherish and celebrate you.

thank you Brian for so much to our community. As a young man, seeing you tirelessly get up at 4am to make sure your company was open and serving the community meant so much to me then, but more so now. I truly appreciate and admire everything you did. You are here with me today in my memories, thank you for being such a positive agent of change. Dorothy, Erica and Sondra, I love you all, hope you are doing well. Thank you for all the good times, looking back 20 years, these were the best times of my life :) Your friend, Barry

So sorry for you loss. I worked for Brian back in my teens and up untill I married my husband. Brian was a great friend to my father in law and the Elliott´s as a whole . Over the course of the years both my daughter and my son worked for him as well for a short time but his long standing affiliation and his friendship with my family will always be a great treasure and memory for all of us . So sad to hear if his passing but I have no doubt he is up there looking out for all of us .

We were long time friends with Brian & Dorothy. I followed Brian to Tim´s and we shared many good times at conventions and other functions.
Brian was passionate about Tim´s and was seldom seen without a coffee in one hand and a smile for everyone.
He was a pioneer in the business (not a dinosaur)
You will be remembered with fond memories.

Brian Howe gave me my first job, and helped instil in me the values of hard work and customer service. He was full of life and passion, and genuinely cared for the well-being of his employees. My condolences to his family.

I remember when I work for Brian back in 2004 to 2007, he would tell people that my sons were his grandsons. He treated them like family just like he treated his staff. Him and I were talking not a month ago about that time and he asked how they were , he told me that he thought often about all his ex staff and their children and what they were doing. He was 1 of a kind and the Kindest soul ever. You will be missed by many Brian, rest in paradise you deserve to.

Words cannot describe how sorry I am for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Brian was a wonderful, caring man who would do anything for anyone.

When I opened my Tim Hortons 25 years ago, Brian came with flowers and words of wisdom saying, "I am here if you need anything". There were many times I called for help with equipment, finding parts (which we all know he had parts for any piece of equipment, lol) or just to ask for some advise. Thank you for helping me throughout the years, you will be deeply missed.

Brian was a great guy. My son was a Military Policeman for many years and any time I would see Brian in the store or on the street he would always ask how my son was doing. He will be missed by many, many customers and friends. I considered him a friend. He also supplied the off ice officials at the Petes games coffee for their room at the Memorial Center for many years. That is the kind of person he was.
