Christopher Norman Obituary

1952-2021 In memory of Chris who passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife, Marion (née Morton), by his side, on February 15, 2021 in his 69th year. Loving father to Jason (Erin) Norman, and Adam Norman (Natalie Caron). He will be sadly missed by his grandsons, Tristan and Gabriel Norman, and many nieces and nephews. Beloved brother of Jennie Norman (Peter Haughton), Tim (Linda) Norman, the late Barbara Norman (Lawrence Surges), and Patricia Sullivan (Paul Black) and brother-in-law to Ruth (Angelo) Cesta, Arlene Franks (Peter Osborne), Barbara (Brian) Edwards, Peggy (Darrel) Immel, and Robert Morton. Before he retired in 2015, Chris worked for more than thirty years for Peterborough Utilities (formerly Selwyn Township, formerly the Village of Lakefield) much of it as the Chief Operating Officer of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants in Lakefield, with a passion for serving the residents of the Village. In retirement, he loved rebuilding, repairing, and running hit-and-miss motors from the early 1900s. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His generous, patient, and thoughtful nature will be greatly missed. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place at Highland Park Funeral Centre. A private family service will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the doctors and associated staff at PRHC and the Central East LHIN for their compassionate, professional care including Dr. B. Hughes, Dr. C. Yeung, Dr. L. Ebusizaki, and Dr. S. Brien. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to PRHC or a preferred charity.

I have some very fond memories of Chris, mostly from when he was the mechanic and I looked after payroll and A/P’s back in the Lakefield days.
His invoices were always properly coded and the vehicle work orders were very detailed.
When he came into the office, he wouldn’t just drop stuff off on my desk. He would engage in a bit of a chat, and before I knew it we were having some kind of philosophical exchange.
I always knew that when Chris would come around I would take a little bit of time to have a real conversation and the Village or myself as a human would always benefit.
Afterwards, he would saunter away, and I would have some thoughts or ideas to ponder until the next time.
I can’t help but smile when I think of Chris.
My sincere condolences to the family

Chris was a very nice man...As I would cut his white hair , we would have some great conversations...and I must say he was one of my tallest clients...I was shocked to here that he had passed away...RIP Chris, and my heart goes out to your Wife and Sons...

I have fond memories of Chris as Chief Drinking Water Operator for the Lakefield water systems. During the early 2000's, I got to know Chris very well when I worked with him on the Lakefield Water Treatment Plant expansion. Chris was always ready with useful insights about how to deal with a problem or fix a piece of equipment. Chris was a thoughtful and hard-working man.

After Chris retired, my wife Emma and I would always meet him annually at the Remembrance Day services at the Lakefield cenotaph. Chris would always extend a hand and heartily shake my arm off.

You will be sadly missed by your friends and community.
Good bye Mr. Norman.

Grant.

We have so many lovely memories of our trips to Peterborough and more recent holidays when we caught up with Chris and Marion in Florida and Paris. I recall our kids being very excited when Chris and Marion visited us in Australia as well as all the Christmas and birthday packages that arrived on our doorstep when the kids were younger. Chris was a striking man with a huge heart. He was kind, generous, always curious and smart (he skipped a grade in school). We have a lot of lovely memories that will linger long after Chris's passing, which came all too soon. May you rest in peace Chris. From your extended family in Melbourne - brother Tim, Linda, Ben, Jayden and Ashlyn.

My deepest condolences to Chris' family. I had the pleasure and honour of working with Chris when the Peterborough Utilities took over the operating contract for the water and sewer systems in Lakefield. I have never met a more dedicated and knowledgeable man who worked so hard to keep the people of Lakefield safe with clean drinking water and quality environmental protection. It's not likely that many of the people of Lakefield know his name, as he never asked for much recognition in his work. He just went about doing the best every day to protect the residents of Lakefield. A giant of a man (with giant working hands!) and a better person.
