Seton and I were friends in elementary and high school. His dad laughed a lot and was very kind and intelligent.
Blessings. Mark

Dear aunt Pat, Seton, Noel, Myra and respective families, our thoughts are with you during this sad time and always. We shall miss uncle Derek dearly, and we will always cherish the happy memories we spent with him. We were blessed with his visit together with both lovely Myra and Melissa to our home in Beaconsfield in 1997 before we had any children. And then in year 2007/8 uncle Derek returned again to visit us in our new home in Farnham Common. This time he travelled together with Seton and we so loved having them to stay, we spent many happy afternoons and evenings having amazingly interesting conversations. I will always remember uncle Derek as a type of family mentor - he was always so interested in each one of us - he was simply inspiring. We will always remember how Seton one afternoon spent hours with the kids and made a worm and ant farm with Josef!
Great memories that we shall always cherish.
I was glad to be able to speak with Uncle Derek on the telephone last October when he was poorly. It was a very special moment indeed. With all our love and best wishes,
Johnny, Helen, Josef, Billy and Mia..

I'm saddened to hear of Derek's passing. I remember him well from sailing, particularly how he beat me at the age of 83, going around Kettle Island.
Derek certainly lived a full life.

Claire and I were so very sorry to learn today of Derek's passing. I regularly raced Laser sailboats against him at ONEC on the Ottawa River - with him excelling. He always was impressive and even in his later racing years he could still step the Laser mast, even in a strong wind - quite a feat! He liked to call me his cousin because he said he had Schofield relatives in his ancestry. Mostly, though, I was always struck by his gentlemanly ways, and by his genuine friendship. Rest In Peace my friend.

I am just learning about Tio Derek's passing today and am saddened. My sincerest condolences to Pat and the immediate family in Canada. Derek was my Dad's (Gerald Ian Lindsay) first cousin and we would enjoy his visits to Lima Peru in the 1970s. Over the years Derek's kept us connected through his annual Christmas card and photos and stories/ explanations of our family history. May you Rest In Peace, Tío Derek. David Lindsay

Dear Pat,
I just heard from Gilliane L. from the Tennis Club (we were talking about the pond) that Derek passed recently. I am so sad to hear this - my sincere condolences to you and your family !
I was honoured to know Derek, enjoyed to talk to him, he was so generous with his advises, always ready to help!
One day, coming back from tennis, I stopped in front of your house to say hello. I saw Derek on the window of the second floor, holding a rope attached on you! You were on the narrow roof of the living room, cleaning or repair something. Quite a sight! Typical Pat. I could not disturb this scene, too dangerous.
Unfortunately, the next time I drove by your house was sold!
I am thinking of you, dear Pat!

I am thinking of you, dear Pat!

Sincere condolences to Derek's family on your loss, which I know will be profound. While Derek and I were colleagues at AECL he was a generous mentor and guide. We shared many interests and values and I always enjoyed and appreciated his observations and insights. His wisdom reflected a broad mind and wide experience of life. I am grateful to have shared a small part of his life and cherish his memory.

How very sad I was to hear the news of Derek passing, and am sending heartfelt condolences to your family and most especially to dear Pat. Such a wonderful life he lived! Our tender, funny, and always informative conversations over the past several years offered delicious insight into Derek's scholarly mind and innate curiosity. I fondly remember the stories he wove, all the way from his Peruvian childhood to nascent nuclear discoveries made during his illustrious career. The stories he sought in exchange only sparked a continuing conversation that warmed our hearts and kept us eagerly awaiting the next installation...we shall miss him dearly. Trish Osler, Warren Crawford and the Delworth family.

I keep fond memories of the early fifties in Peterborough. Derek was one of the 'notables' of the CGE '52 Testmen. You could always depend on him for a learned opinion if you had a serious topic to discuss. He made a valuable contribution to the state of the art while at CAPD and AECL. A solid citizen. Please accept my condolences. Derek was a real gentleman who was active in protecting our lovely neighbourhood pond and educating himself and others about topics relating to
good stewardship of the conservation area. He will be missed.
