Donald Curtis Obituary

Peacefully, passed away on October 18, 2021 at the age of 89. Beloved husband to Janice. Preceded in death by Elizabeth Joan Curtis and survived by their sons John (Karen), Ron (Tammy) and Gary (Leah). Proud grandfather of Aaron, Morgan, Taylor, and Andy.
"Doc Don" was an outstanding doctor, a leader in the community, a builder in the world of sport, a collector of everything, and a traveler of everywhere.
A native of Peterborough and graduate in medicine of the University of Toronto, he practiced Family Medicine at the Peterborough Clinic for over 40 years.
Some of his other involvements over his lifetime include serving 15 years as Chief of Staff of the Peterborough Civic Hospital. He practiced Industrial Medicine at Canadian General Electric, was a 30+ year Board member of the YMCA, spent time as doctor to the Peterborough Petes, was part owner of the Peterborough Lakers Lacrosse Team, Co-Chaired (with Peter Adams), Participaction Peterborough, Chaired the City Recreation Committee, was an inductee into the Peterborough Sports Hall of Fame, and a longtime volunteer with them. He was also a key player in founding the Canadian Canoe Museum and served on the Board and as Board Chair. He rarely missed a Petes or Lakers game whether in person or, in later years, online.
Respected and loved by many, his presence will be missed in the fabric of Peterborough.
Don's family will celebrate his life in a private family service with a public celebration to take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre or the YMCA of Central East Ontario.

I worked at the Peterborough Clinic for many years Dr Don was truly an unique person. Words can not describe this man taking time to be involved with many causes, always approachable , one of the last doctors that did house calls! Truly the last of his kind.

Curtis family, we are very sorry for your loss. Dr. Don was so loved by our family. I remember his kind and gentle ways as a Doctor and a friend. We loved our childhood visits to your cottage and enjoyed when our families got together. He was always smiling and his care for each of us was genuine. He was such a good friend to our parents and for that, we are so grateful. Praying for peace and comfort for your family. He will be missed. With love from, John and Jeannie Coros

Don was a true Peterborough Community supporter. Always ready to volunteer or to take on a leadership role. He was active, involved and a friend to many. Always signed up and took on tasks to help his many interests. Greeted you with a quiet smile and a strong handshake. A good friend, excellent Doctor and a person who got things done. So glad to have known him during my days in Peterborough. My sympathy and thoughts to family.
