KELLY, Douglas Allen On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 23, 2019, Doug Kelly passed away peacefully in his sleep at Peterborough Health Centre in Peterborough, Ontario at the age of 85. Doug was born on August 19, 1934 in Fenelon Falls, Ontario to Bryce and Blanche (nee Worsley) Kelly. In 1952, Doug joined the Royal Canadian Airforce at the age of 18 and served for four years on bases in Ontario and Manitoba. In October of 1958 Doug married Marilyn Hart of Omemee, Ontario, and together they raised two sons, David and Steven, in Peterborough until she passed away in February of 1985. Doug married Donna Bird of Peterborough in September of 1988. Although he no longer served in the RCAF, for many years Doug was an active member of the Air Force Club in Peterborough, volunteering his time with the cadets and eventually serving as president. Doug held a lifelong fascination for all types of aircraft; big or small, old or new, and often attended airshows and flight museums, as well as visiting air bases when he travelled. Over the years he was fortunate enough to find the opportunity to fly in fixed-wing aircraft of all manner, as well as a helicopter and a hot-air balloon. Doug also loved his baseball; a game he played leisurely from his younger days until he neared retirement age. He attended countless Toronto Blue Jays games from their inception in 1977 until very recent years. Doug always wore number 19 with pride. After Doug retired from being a transit driver for the City of Peterborough, he and Donna indulged in his love of travelling; driving all across Ontario, the Maritimes and up and down the eastern United States, as well as flying to places like Mexico, the Caribbean and Costa Rica. Doug is survived by his wife Donna, his sons; Dave and Steve, and Steve's wife Stacey, Donna's children; Edileen and husband Tony Willis, Carileen Bird and partner Chris Reynard, Bramon Bird and wife Sonya, and James Bird, her grandchildren; Kyle, Zachary, Bramon Jr and Tessa, as well as his brothers; Guy and John and their families. A graveside service will be held at Rosemount Memorial Gardens, 2551 Whittington Drive, Peterborough, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Airforce Club, 274 King Street, Peterborough, between 1 and 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019. Online condolences may be made at
