Gilbert Wright Obituary

It is with extreme sorrow we announce the death of Gilbert ("Gil") Wright in his 85th year on May 14, 2022 with his loving and heartbroken life partner of 25 years, Catherine (Dufort), by his side.
Among other relatives, Gil is survived by his loving brother Robert Wright (Joan) as well as his children Eleanor (Tye), Clark (Tami) and Michael (Annabelle) and 7 grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his parents, William and Eleanor Wright, and his brother William ("Bill") Wright.
Gil was born in New Liskeard on December 3, 1937, sharing a birthday with his cherished mother whom he lost suddenly at the age of 14, a trauma that marked his life. Gil was blessed with a rich baritone voice that enabled his career as a radio broadcaster. Reflecting his passion for music, he hosted a big band radio show well into his 60s. A consummate music man, Gil could identify a song on the first three notes and was a sought after dance partner.
Gil was a gentle, compassionate and generous friend who spent a good part of his life actively volunteering to help people with serious life challenges, altering the course of many lives. This generosity was returned by Gil's many and truly devoted friends.
He had a great sense of humour and loved a joke, passing them along to a host of enthusiastic recipients.
He was also passionate about the Leafs, grammar and the news (in that order).
A celebration of Gil's life will be held Sat., June 25 at the Nisbett Funeral Home in Peterborough. Visiting at 1:00pm, memorial service at 2:00pm, followed by a reception on-site.
No flowers please - donations instead to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Gil will be deeply missed and loved and will forever have a special place in the hearts of his family and many friends.

Gil and I met when he was sixteen and I was fifteen. We remained friends all these years though we lost touch when my husband and I moved from Fenelon Calls to South West Ontario. I went through many happy times and some sad times with him and I am so sorry I did not get to see him before he left us. Gil was my oldest and close friend and I am sorry we lost touch.

One of the best friends I ever had. We shared memories of our early days in radio in Midland and when the Manager of the station I worked at in 1965 if I knew anybody he could hire who was great on air and reliable, I said Gil Wright. That's how he got to Ottawa. Loved you like a brother, Gil.

Dear Catherine.

So very sad to hear of Gibs passing. He was a wonderful person . John goes back many years with him and when they both worked at the Dept of Highways in the 1960's. They became friends and then many years passed until they reconnected and enjoyed a couple of sessions of talking over "old times".
Hope your memories will comfort you and we offer our deepest condolences.
