Joan Jones

1931 - 2020

July 25, 1931 - December 30, 2020 With great sadness, her family announces the passing of Joan M.D. Jones on December 30, 2020 at age 89. Joan lived for many years on Barnardo Avenue, and became a resident of Princess Gardens in Peterborough in 2016. Joan was born July 25, 1931. Always a good student, after high school Joan went to Toronto and became a Registered Nurse. After several years, she answered her true calling, which was to teach school. Upon graduating from Toronto Teachers' College, Joan taught first in Toronto and then Peterborough until retiring in 1998. She was able to achieve both a BA and an MEd from U of T by taking night and summer school courses. Quite an accomplishment! Joan lived a full and satisfying life. Joan's family benefited from her love and generosity. She was loyal and loving to her mother, sisters and brother, and nieces and nephews. Over the years she was a foster parent and supported several charities. Once retired, Joan was able to devote more time to her loves, some of which were improving her home, gardening, visiting with family, reading, enjoying classical music both at home and in concerts with Mary and Katy, hunting for unusual rocks with sister Elaine, being a wonderful big sister to Diane, and keeping fit at the local community centre. Joan was a capable, independent, generous woman of strong integrity. She is survived by her sister Diane in BC (George), her nieces Katy, Lori and Alison, and nephews Daniel, Stuart, Andy, Peter, Ryan and Craig. She was predeceased by her sister Elaine, brother Ray and sister-in-law Mary. The staff in 3rd floor nursing at Princess Gardens were incredibly kind and attentive to Joan over the years she was in full care. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to them all. Joan was loved deeply and will be missed. Joan was privately interred with her mother and sister on January 20th at Riverside Cemetery in Lindsay.
