Johanna ENGELKE Obituary

Born July 5, 1930 in Zevenbergen, the Netherlands. She passed away peacefully on June 5, 2021 in her 91st year, at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Jenny was one of 11 children, four remaining. She was the wife of the late Hermann Engelke and is survived by her three children, Marlyn Dubay (Bob), H. Christopher, and Erick (Rosie), five granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren.

Jenny came to Canada in 1958. She was renowned all her life for her prolific and beautiful sewing and knitting. After she raised her family, Jenny and Hermann became the owners of Seweze Sales, a popular sewing store where she also taught lessons.

Over her lifetime, she donated many knitted works to charities, schools, and churches for raffles, and created displays that are popular at the dialysis clinic and the retirement home where she lived.

There will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.highlandparkfuneralcentre.com

Lieve Zus,

Rust zacht lieve zus,

Dimphy

My Oma has been a constant throughout my life. Most of my childhood memories have my grandparents weaved into them. They were my greatest cheerleaders in everything I did. Never missing a single figure skating showcase, concert, 4-H competition, fair display, school play, graduation or grandparents tea.

I loved our visits to her shop. My Oma could make us anything! The list was endless; clothes for our Barbies, swimsuits, track suits, knitted hats, scarves, mitts with dummy strings (just for me, I wonder why?! ), sweaters, dolls, book bags and so much more.

As her eyesight failed she sewed less and knitted more. In the hospital a few days before her death, her hands were busy knitting an imaginary scarf in her sleep.

She loved to laugh and had an infectious deep chuckle. Although she wasn't the type to dwell on the past, there were a few favorite stories that were bound to be told at a family gathering.

Those memories are something I'll always carry with me and will reflect on any time I eat an Opa-meal cookie, sew on a button or go to the lake.

I can't wait to see her again soon.

I worked at her little store i afternoon a week with her for a little while. I was a devoted shopper to her store buying 2 machines from her. She was a lovely lady. Very knowledgeable and helpful. She had time for everybody. Rest In Peace Jenny. You will be missed ♥
