This sounds very much like the fine man I knew in Rio Gallegos, Argentina on a diving project in the run up to the Falklands war. I've thought of him often. Very sad to learn of his passing before I could shake his hand again. I am blessed to havee known him.

Mary Ellen, my deepest heartfelt condolences to you, family and friends.

A gang of backpackers met John one October 45 years ago on a beach in Corfu. His wit, humour and infectious laugh touched us all and I was so blessed that our chance meeting lead to a lasting friendship. It was a great honour to know you John - thank you.

I was truly saddened to hear of John´s passing - my sincere condolences to Mary-Ellen, D'Arcy, Rikki and Kaia, family and friends.
I had the great privilege of getting to know John many years ago, when we were both much younger, briming with enthusiasm and seeking adventure on the hi-seas. I recall sharing the excitement of boarding helicopters heading off to remote offshore platforms, preparing our diving equipment and plunging far below the surface of vast oceans. What I remember most about those times was John´s kind and compassionate temperament, his confident can-do attitude and his boundless positivity.
Although our paths diverged as our individual careers matured, looking back on those formative years, I can honestly say that my life was enriched simply by getting to know John - he was a wonderful person.
Rest in peace my old friend.
