PRINGLE, Mable Ellen (formerly Higgins, Thompson, nee Southern) The family is sad to announce the passing of a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at the age of 100 years and 8 months. Mable was a remarkable personality, blessed with an amazing memory, an enthusiastic zest for life and a wonderful sense of humour. She liked to say ""I had 3 brothers, 3 sons and 3 husbands. Nobody can tell me anything about men!"" Born in Paris, Ontario on May 1st, 1918 she was the daughter of Bill and Alice Southern and sister of Howard, Frank and Stanley. She married Bill Higgins (d. 1977) in 1937 and shortly thereafter they moved to Peterborough where they started Higgins Floor Sanding, a family business for over 75 years. In later years she was married to Bert Thompson (d. 1965) and Bob Pringle (d. 1980). She was an enthusiastic cottager and water skier, first learning the sport in the 1950s and continuing to practice until she was 84. She also enjoyed downhill skiing and was active as a life member at Devil's Elbow until she was 85. She was a kind, thoughtful person and many members of her family and local charities benefited from her generosity. Followers of The Golden Tones singing group will remember her comedic monologues from the annual concert, frequently written by herself. Mable is survived by her 3 sons, Ted Higgins (Rosemary), Brian Higgins (Brenda) both of Peterborough and Bob Higgins of Belleville, as well as 6 grandchildren, Tammy Higgins (Peter Herwynen), Tracey Cockfield, Angela Higgins (Bogac Ozdemir), Brad Higgins (Kim), Steve Higgins (Lori) and Vanessa Higgins. She will also be missed by her 10 great-grandchildren. Her remains have been disposed of in accordance with her wishes; a celebration-of-life will be held at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Rd., Peterborough on Saturday January 19, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Words of Remembrance at 3 p.m. The family would like to say a special thanks to the management and staff of Applewood Retirement Residence who showed Mable much kindness during the past 2 years. Donations to a
charity of your choice in Mable's name will be appreciated by the family.
