Margaret Crawford Obituary

Peacefully in Waterloo, on September 29 in her 99th year. Beloved wife and companion of Maurice, dear mother of Peggy (Doug Smith) and Christine of Winnipeg. Scott (Peggy) of Peterborough and Maureen of Waterloo. Survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Sister Gladys resides in Niagara Falls. Predeceased by husband Maurice, brothers Don and Sonny. Born in Edmonton, Betty moved with her family to Kenora in 1939. Betty was a 1946 graduate of Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing. Many wonderful friendships were made that lasted her whole life. She was a life member of WGH-HSC Nurses' Alumnae and attended many reunions. Betty nursed for several years and then began raising her family. Betty and Maurice were married in 1946 and lived in Winnipeg, MB, Riverview, NB and Peterborough, ON. Betty worked for a number of years at the Peterborough Public Library in the Children's Department which she thoroughly enjoyed, especially story time! Betty volunteered in retirement at the Peterborough Hospital happily sharing her love of books by going around to rooms with the book cart. She retired from that with a service award for 25 years. In their retirement Betty and Maurice took numerous trips and tours meeting wonderful people, seeing lovely places and just enjoying life. Since 2017, Betty lived with Maureen in Waterloo. Betty was a gracious person who loved her family and friends and the house was always open. A recent highlight was a family gathering in Waterloo with her family on the occasion of her 99th birthday. A cremation has taken place. It was Betty's wish that there be no funeral, but that her friends celebrate the good times and learn from the journey we shared with her. In sympathy donations may be made to Northminster United Church or a Charity of Your Choice.
Time has taken me from you,
Although not very far.
I'll be watching through the sunshine
And through the brightest star.
I'll be watching all of you,
From the heavens up above.
So take good care of each other
And carry all my love.

I remember Betty from Peterborough as she was a good friend of my mom, Sheila Sinclair. They did some travelling together (Mediterranean cruise) and shared outings in the Peterborough area. I took Betty and my mom to a meeting of the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers group in Peterborough one evening. We had a lovely time.
My condolences on your loss. It's been 10 years since my mom passed away and I still miss her.
