Patrick BAKER Obituary

Passed away peacefully on October 4, 2022 at P.R.H.C. with family by his side at the age of 83. Pat was predeceased by his mom, Leola and dad, Joseph. He felt very fortunate to have the loving relationships with his first wife Marie Baker and with his second wife Adele Baker (pre-deceased). Pat leaves behind his loving and attentive partner Anna Murphy, his children Lynnette Flagler, David (Michele), Patti Hewitt (Greg) and Ted Franks (Cindy). Fondly remembered by Tricia Osborne. He was a very proud and caring "Poppa" of Tyler, Brad, Kurt, Rachel, and Mitchell, and Great "Grandpoppa" of Sage. Brother of Ruth (Bonnie) Garvey (Ken) and uncle to their 5 children. Pat was born on May 27, 1939 in St. Catherines but his early years were spent in Port Dalhousie where he developed strong interest in athletic competitions of any kind. At the age of 10, rheumatic fever led to serious heart issues resulting in months of doctor prescribed bed rest with no future physical activity. Pat would not give up on his desire to play sports, with his understanding and caring parents, a compromise was reached... play goal in lacrosse and skate for hockey but with bed rest replacing school before and after all games. In 1951, the morning after playing on an Ontario Lacrosse Championship Peewee Team his family moved to Peterborough. Pat pushed the limits and excelled in high school sports. He can claim championships at the highest level possible, provincial and national, in each age division, as well as senior and professional. Pat is recognized as one of the greatest lacrosse goalies of all time. Pat joined Tilco Plastics at the age of 14 and successfully completed his business career. He retired as Shareholder, General Manager and President of Tilco Plastics and affiliated companies at the age of 56. At Pat's request a private family interment is taking place. An informal Celebration of Pat's Life will be held on Saturday, October 15 at Champs Sports Bar (203 Simcoe Street, Peterborough) from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Shared memories from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. At the family's request donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation and online condolences may be made at: www.AshburnhamFuneral.ca

Marie, Anna, Lynnette, David, Patti, Ted and all of your families:
We are so very saddened for your loss of a wonderful husband, father, "Poppa", "Grandpoppa" and uncle. His achievements in lacrosse, hockey, the business world, giving back to the community in his coaching - truly a life so well lived! But beyond all of his accomplishments, he was an even better friend and we will miss him dearly. Please know that all of you are in our thoughts and prayers and may you always enjoy the lifetime of memories that you shared with Pat.

To the Baker family: You have lost a dedicated father, a man dedicated to helping develop young men through his experience and coaching in hockey and of course lacrosse. The city has lost yet another legend from Peterborough Lacrosse history and the Baker kids a great dad. I remember as a kid watching Pat when he played goalie for Peterborough and I can tell you no one from the opposition dared go behind his net. Those of you who had the pleasure to watch him play know exactly what I mean. To the Baker family, David and Patti my sympathy on your great loss. RIP Pat

RIP Pat! You were a successful businessman as well as excellent athlete. You pioneered the scoop and shoot method of goaltending, throwing the ball down the floor after making a stop in all one motion, hitting Cy (Coombes) on the fly. i am sure you hit others for breakaways but Cy always stood out! Personally you always had a kind word for me!
