Roy LEAKE Obituary
LEAKE, Roy Benson 1946-2018 Died peacefully, September 1, 2018 surrounded by family, after a short illness, in Peterborough. Born in Cooksville, son of Lawson and Marion (Holman), Roy spent his childhood exploring, including time at the family cottage on Lake Simcoe and Aunt Margaret's farm in Monkton. After graduating from the University of Waterloo Roy partnered with Dr. Roche in an optometry practice in Peterborough. Years of service with the Rotary club included work re-opening Camp Kawartha, the Greenbelt Trail and, his favourite projects, those supporting children with disabilities. Roy was never happier then when on a boat, fishing. Port Hope became a second home when docked at the marina. A serious card player Roy was always up for a game of euchre, cribbage or his favourite, bridge. The bridge group met every Thursday for over forty years of competitive play. A humorous, supportive and caring dad, he taught us to swim, to camp and joined in on wild family traditions. For the grandchildren he always had special treats, including stuffed animals, Moose Tracks ice cream and trips to the Chinese buffet. Roy is deeply missed by his children, Patti (Rich), Jen, Dan (Erika); grandchildren, Sarala, Zaylie, Alexandra, Graeson, Tayo and Andrew; brothers, Jim (Beth) and Howard (Pauline); nieces, Allison, Michelle, Élira and their families. A service is planned for September 30, 6:30-9pm at the Canadian Canoe Museum. Please join us for remarks at 7pm and enjoy the galleries and refreshments. No flowers please, donations can be made to the Lower Trent Conservation Authority if desired.
