He was an outstanding prof. Sorry that I only now learned of this. Condolences to his children and grandchildren and wife (classmate of mine). Very sad.

I didn't expect to land on this page. I intened on seeking out Prof. Robson's email address so I could thank him for introducing me to the History of World War One.
In 1998 I was a freshman at Trent University and Prof. Robson was my teacher. I remember that we had a beautiful room that we met in every week, at Catherine Parr Trail college in Peterborough Ontario.
Prof. Robson had us read through his recently produced book, "The First World War". He had such passion. I remember vividly his explanation of the front photo, and why it was important and why it was there.
I had lost that book years ago so I recently repurchased the second edition.
So, instead of thanking him directly I'll share here to those that knew and loved him as well - thank you, Prof. Stuart Robson, for sharing your knowledge and taking the time. I'll remember those sunny days at Traill college in 1998/1999 well for the rest of my life.

What a fine, fine teacher and witty person. I owe my career as a journalist to Stuart Robson, who turned me from an academic drone to someone capable of independent thought and analysis.

I was very saddened to hear about Professor Robson's passing. He was a terrific academic but he always struck me as a teacher before being an academic. When I was a student he taught alternative years - First World War and Second World War. I don't know anyone who took one and not the other. His lectures were far-ranging and detailed and always fascinating. His tutorials intense (an hour and a half with just you, him and one other student. Half the time was on your topic, half the time the other student's topic), and even though he never came down hard, it was clear he expected you to know your stuff. But you never wanted to feel you disappointed him, so you made sure you did! He was funny, kind, and at various points in my life I would briefly contact him and let him know what I was up to and in turn find out what he was up to. He always seemed interested. Anyways, rest in peace Stu -- because away from your office we all called you Stu -- you were a terrific professor, and just a great guy. I'll miss knowing you're around.

Stuart introduced me to folk music when we were both at UBC. He could get a party singing when he pulled out his guitar, and we all loved his nebbishes, weird little cartoon drawings for the UBC yearbook. We were both active in World University Service and Stuart won the 1961 traveling seminar to Germany where he saw the Berlin Wall go up. Stu was a Rhodes Scholar and went to Oxford while I went to Cambridge and we lost touch, but I will always treasure our friendship. My deepest sympathy to his family at this sad time.

I was a history student at Trent university which is where I came to know and learn from Professor Robson. I wish to add my voice to the many who appreciated his positive energy and commitment to fostering others to think critically and reflect on the human experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed my courses with Stuart at Trent in the early 70s. It was always entertaining to see he and Christopher Greene do a combined lecture on European history of the 1900/1945s. I imagine they are both caught up on a discussion about WW1 somewhere in the Great Beyond.

Stu (as he was known) and I were together involved with other friends at UBC. His cartoon drawings of what he called nebbishes (characters with no belly button) reflecting his humour as an observer of student life were memorable. He was the one who got 4 votes for the Rhodes scholarship (I got 3). We met in London often when I was at the LSE and he came down from Oxford for Christmas and such, staying at the "Putney Place" as we called it, with the girls. He and Wendy were at my first wedding in Paris in 1966 (Wendy and I, from West Van High). Alas, little contact since he retired from Trent. We send our best wishes to the family at this difficult time, may you find peace in His love. John

Condolences to Professor Robson's family and friends. He was an excellent history professor at Trent University, where he emphasized the importance of small group discussions, scholarly research and interpretive essay writing. He prepared his students well for post graduate studies, and their future careers, and was a friendly, encouraging and enthusiastic teacher.

Although I did not take any courses from Prof. Stuart Robson, many of my friends did so and they all of spoke very highly of him and the kindness and the helpfulness that he showed to his students.
While working at the Bata Library I handled his requests for books to be purchased for Trent and he built a fantastic collection of the titles on1st and 2nd World Wars.
With sympathy to all his family.

Stuart was for many years my colleague in the History Dept. at Trent University, and I well knew him to be the kindest, most supportive and big-hearted of persons. He was a superb and greatly beloved teacher, who loved his family most of all.
Stuart and the late Wendy were also dear friends of David and me. We send our warmest condolences to Mariel, Jennifer, Kate, Molly Anne and the entire family.

Professor Robson touched our family's lives when he kindly gave the eulogy at my mother's funeral more than 30 years ago. He had been her professor in a History course she loved. He was able to capture the essence of who she was and we are very grateful for that. Condolences to the entire family from ours.

Prof. Robson's WW I and II courses - best classes I ever had. I still talk about them 40 years later. Condolences.

I was at St John's Oxford with Stuart and we shared a house with Norman Webster in 1963-64. We met on later occasions when he was at Trent. All sympathy to his family.
