Tuula WILKINSON Obituary

WILKINSON, Tuula Anneli (nee Vikman) May 2, 1946 - October 13, 2019 After a long, hard-fought battle, it is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Tuula Wilkinson of Hastings, at the Campbellford Memorial Hospital on Thanksgiving Sunday at the age of 73. Beloved wife of 55 years to her husband Tom. Daughter of Enni Vikman (and the late Lasse Vikman) of Toronto. Mother of Tara Wilkinson (Andrew Csafordi), Todd Wilkinson, Tania Fredericks (David Fredericks), Tamara Anderson (Scott Anderson), and Tiffenni Wilkinson (David Roadhouse). Mummu (grandmother) to Bailey (Justin Frederick), Braydon, Arwen, Kieran, Andie, Ashton, Kaiden and Rayna. Tuula was born in Tampere, Finland and immigrated with her parents to Canada in 1954 - arriving through Pier 21 in Halifax, then taking the train on to Toronto. It was her destiny to meet the love of her life, Tom, at a skating rink there on Boxing Day, 1958 when she was just 12 years old and Tom was 15. They married in 1964 and raised their family starting in Toronto, then Peterborough and Hastings, Ontario. Tuula was a graduate of Kenner Collegiate Vocational Institute - returning as an adult to finish her diploma in 1984 (age 38). She was also a passionate lifelong learner of the Arts, taking innumerable courses at the Haliburton School of Art and Design. We are grateful she was recently able to spend a week at her beloved cottage at Lake Catchacoma. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at a ""Celebration of Life"" for Tuula on Sunday, November 10th from 2:00- 4:00 p.m. in the Rogers Room, Best Western Plus Otonabee Inn, 84 Lansdowne Street East, Peterborough. Service at 2:30 followed by light refreshments and fellowship. She will be laid to rest in Lakefield Cemetary during a private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army or Arthritis Society would be appreciated by the family.
