I can't believe how busy it has been since Bill passed. Running up and down to keep his homestead from flooding or holding tank from over filling, Getting his physical remains appropriately cared for, and paper work. Being so overwhelmed by "stuff" that we don't take the time to grieve. Well, Bill's birthday passed last week, we didn't get to giggle as he ate his Jell-O with chopsticks as he liked to do at the Mandarin. But we ate a meal in his remembrance. A home cooked meal, we so enjoyed it when he and Ruth came to dinner. Sometimes breaking out the fine china, sometimes on TV tables in the living room but always great stories and laughter. What I remember most about Bill, other than his stories, is he was a giving man! He lived the Christianity he talked about. He gave above and beyond, long since given away his personal possessions, (furniture, tools, & money ) Always ready to pay someone to do the odd job, so their life could be enriched. So he kept the odd teddy bear... every day needed some fun he often said. Ready to encourage others with the hope he had in Christ and the life beyond the physical one. He donated to the women's and young other shelters. He'd often drop off 2-3 totes for us to distribute to local charities and to those with less. Less of what? Certainly not less hope, Bill had hope, hope and confidence that he would be with our lord in his next breath. He shared that with any one who would listen. My fondest memory.. The Christmas eve Bill and Ruth got stuck at our home due to weather. We planned and ate a lovely German dinner, went to candlelight service. Afterwards, stuffed with desert we pulled out the bed sofa in the living room for the 2 of them. As Al and I retired to our room one floor down, we could hear the 2 of them giggle and shuffle around like a pair of silly sisters. Such joy he took in the simple pleasures of life. I will miss those quiet evenings around the fire pit, camping in his driveway and sharing BBQ meals on our grill. I will miss his stories and I will miss his company. But the memories I will hold forever. He knew the true treasures were not the ones you filled space with, but rather friend, fun, laughter and giving! Till we meet again.

esterday afternoon I found out that an old friend of mine from the 48th Highlanders passed away. I hadn´t spoken to Bill McGuire in years. I hadn´t seen Bill since my early twenties. I hadn´t spent quality time with him in four decades, but I can still hear his voice. For the past five years, I had been trying to contact Bill with no luck. This year's search soon turned up an obituary, and after a few minor inquiries, my search was over. I was too late. Bill McGuire passed November 19th, 2021. Bill was great guy and a joy to be around. It is strange to have feelings for a passing of a friend from long-ago. All the stories and history of those four fun years would be left to my shaky memory. Bill McGuire served in the 48th from approximately 1974-1979, and then he transferred to Medics (25 Field Ambulance) at Moss Park Armoury. I met Bill McGuire during a call out at Connaught Ranges, and we became instant friends. At that time I was with the Blackwatch in Montreal, and by Fall I had moved to Toronto to attend George Brown College. Toronto can often be a cold cruel and unfriendly place, but with Bill there to break the ice, I soon found a new home with the 48th Highlanders. When Bill's mother passed away, his apartment proved to be too expensive, so we were soon renting an apartment together near Downsview. Good Times! Bill and I went to Norway together in 1980 as a part of Anorak Express. He later managed to get a position at the Battalion MIR. He had a real passion for helping people, so it came as no surprise that he would become a Paramedic with Kirkland Lake Ambulance after leaving the service.
Bill was a avid parachutist and the only person I knew who packed and owned his own Chute. He was very creative and was constantly creating things with velcro and webbing. In July of 1980, I went to the Golan Heights (UNDOF) returning a year later and was soon married and transferred to the regulars. Once I left the 48th, I never went back. Kids , a military career, and a new home in Calgary was my future. Bill was one of the few people I had hoped to meet again one day."We all have our 'good old days' tucked away inside our hearts, and we return to them in our daydreams. If you ever wonder if that great friend of yours whom you haven´t seen in decades still thinks about you, know that they do. You´d probably be surprised to find out how much. I love you both. You did so much for me when you were here. There was still so much for you to do here Bill, but you were needed elsewhere. As far as I'm concerned YOU TWO ARE TRULY ANGELS. I miss you both.

So sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He was a great friend to my late husband Mike. He also looked after my late husband on his many trips to the hospital with Bill. Bill took such good care of him as a paramedic. He will be missed.

It is my deepest sadness to hear of Bill's passing. Bill I will always remember our deep long intellectual conversations we had, our laughs, our hiking especially to Mount Cheminis, our fun eating outings, our swims at Kenogami Lake, you enjoying looking at my art and photography and many more good thoughts. I remember when you loved driving my brand new PT Cruiser that I had purchased and you my friend were the first to have the privilege to drive it, as you know I loved my brand new vehicle purchases that I made. Well my friend you have moved on to the other side. We shall meet again! This photo called: "Light and Darkness" which I have taken a few years ago is dedicated to you. "Rest In Peace" Bill.
Sincerely your friend;
