Allan BENSON Obituary

BENSON, Allan Anderson August 3, 1945 - April 26, 2019 Passed away peacefully after a brief stay at Lisaard House, surrounded by family. Allan is deeply missed by all his loved ones; beloved husband to Marcella, loving father to his sons James, David and Peter (Dee) Benson, loving brother to his sister Carol (David) Cooke, loving Uncle to his nephew Michael (Alison) Cooke and niece Lisa (Corey) Palmer, loving Popsie to his very dear granddaughter Taylor, and a granddaughter and grand-niece arriving soon. He was a loyal friend, kind and generous - well loved by so many people. He will be greatly missed by his friends, neighbours, colleagues, business associates, and students. Born in St. John's Newfoundland to Roy and Edna Benson, Allan grew up in The Beaches, Toronto. Allan studied accounting and became a CPA at Ryerson Polytechnic Institute. He was on the Ryerson basketball team. As a CPA he quickly earned a reputation as an ethical and dedicated professional. Allan and his family moved to Kitchener-Waterloo and he became a partner with Clarke, Starke and Diegel Accounting firm, where he remained until he retired in 2009. He was a Lecturer in the Business/Finance Accounting Department at Wilfrid Laurier University for 30 plus years, well past his retirement from Clarke, Starke and Diegel. Highly respected and admired by the many business students whose successes he facilitated, his influence will most certainly live on in them. A mentor to many in the business, sports and academic worlds, he helped numerous people succeed in life. Allan enjoyed many activities and shared them with his family and friends over the years; waterskiing, football, basketball, hockey, go-karting, sailing, skiing, motorcycling, woodworking, ballroom dancing, playing fingerstyle guitar and going to concerts. Georgian Bay was a favorite place to spend time. He was involved with the Kitchener Rangers for many years and was a Scout for both the NHL and OHL. He taught and volunteered at Chicopee Ski Club. A Celebration of Allan's life, will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 3-7 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, ON.
