Surrounded by the love of his family, Tom passed away peacefully at the Freeport Campus of Grand River Hospital on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of 60 years to Eftihia "Effy". Loving father of John (Ylanda) Ioannidis and Angie Ioannidis. Cherished Dedo to Olivia. Brother of Chrisoula "Christine" Stergiou, Steve (Irene) and Peter (Ismini) and brother-in-law to Maria Ioannidis and Miranta Nikolaou. Survived by his many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends in Canada, Greece, US, Australia and Germany. Predeceased by his grandson Michael Ioannidis, his parents, Georgios and Paraskevi (nee Karakatsis) Ioannidis and his brother Jimmy, brothers-in-law Louis Stergiou, and Sam Nikolaou. Tom immigrated to Canada in 1967 for a better life for his family. A devoted family man, he joined his brothers in the family businesses for many years. He enjoyed his time at Colonial Cookies, retiring in 2007. A special thank you to the 8th Floor staff at Grand River Hospital and the palliative care team at Freeport Hospital. The family is requesting that all guests please be masked when visiting and for the funeral service. Thank you for understanding. Tom's family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467 with Trisagion Prayers at 7 p.m. The Funeral will be held at St. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 527 Bridgeport Rd, Kitchener on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 11 a.m. Interment at Williamsburg Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church or the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
