It is with great sadness that the family of Diane Bean announces her passing at age 77 on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. Diane was predeceased by her loving parents, Doris (Bradshaw) and Aubrey Bean, her much missed husband Douglas Smith, her twin sister Sally Seibert, her sister Martha Brown (Foster) and her step brother John Duffield (late Myrna). Diane is survived and will be missed by her brother Mike (and Di's lifelong friend Mary Ann), step sister Diane Duffield and step brother Charles Duffield (Charmaine).
Diane grew up in Kitchener and attended KCI until Grade 12. She then persuaded her generous Stratford Bradshaw grandparents to sponsor her for a wonderful Grade 13 year in Neuchatel, Switzerland, creating lifelong bonds. While away, her father successfully took Di's nursing application interview with Wellesley Hospital, from which Diane obtained her RN in Sept. 1965. Diane subsequently worked at Victoria Hospital in London and the Clarke Institute in Toronto. She then enrolled at McGill University in the fall of 1970, during the tumultuous, FLQ charged October crisis, obtaining her Bachelor of Nursing in Public Health in 1972. Thereafter, she worked as a Public Health nurse in Scarborough, York and then as a Public Health Supervisor in Waterloo.
Diane was a much loved, generous, fun and birthday remembering Auntie Di to her nieces, nephews and their families - Michael Bean (Carolyn, an incredible caregiver to Di), David Bean (Liz), Christopher Bean (Anh Minh), Marcia LaRoue (Pat), Jeff Seibert, Derek Seibert, the late Steve Seibert, Kate Brown and David Brown (Rose) - all of whom remember the many, very special times they spent with their Auntie Di. Diane was a passionate reader, K-W Symphony devotee, frequent attendee at the Stratford Festival and film lover.
The family would like to thank Diane's wonderful caregiver/friend, Emebet Beyene and the nursing/medical staff at St. Mary's Hospital for their sensitive, comforting care and attention to Diane. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service, with Diane's loving niece, Pastor Kate Brown presiding, at Westheights Community Church, 82 Westheights Dr. Kitchener, on Thursday. October 7th at 1 p.m. Masks are required and distancing will be maintained. Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be no interment or after service social.
