Bruce McNAUGHTON Obituary

The world lost a wonderful man this past Monday, February 27, 2023. Bruce Grant McNaughton, 76, passed away after a valiant fight at St. Mary's Hospital. He was a man who knew how to laugh, how to look on the bright side of life, and how not to take life too seriously. Bruce leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Karen (nee MacPhail) with whom he recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. They met at Laurier's Shinerama and have been inseparable ever since. Many who saw them together commented on what a perfect pair they made, and how special their relationship truly was. Bruce was a very active and loving father to his two children, daughter Bonnie (Jorge), and son Daniel. He was supportive of their dreams and helped them through hard times. He was also always ready for a dance party in the living room, or train watching with his son Dan. This fun-loving spirit extended to all youngsters, as nephews, nieces, and the children of family friends often asked if, "Bruce could come out to play". He was thrilled to recently meet his three granddaughters Marian, Giselle, and Ivette Meza, whom he adored at first sight. Bruce also leaves behind his cherished Bouvier Holly, who never left his side. Surely he has been greeted by those who went before, Wheelie, Roxy, Gypsy, and Belle. Bruce leaves behind two siblings whom he loved dearly, brother Barry McNaughton (Margo), and sister Donna McNaughton-Berry (Brian). You knew when this trio was together due to the loud raucous laughter and good times being had. They had a joyful childhood growing up together filled with many happy memories. Bruce worked for 32 years at the Region of Waterloo as a Land Purchasing Officer. He was an active member of the Optimist Club and regularly volunteered his time for the betterment of the community. He was also a long-time player on the softball team, "Benny and the Jets" with whom he shared many fun times. Bruce made many dear friends over the years. He was never too busy to help them, never too busy to take the time. He knew how to appreciate the small things in life: a deep breath of fresh crip air, the beauty of nature and all its creatures, a dram of good scotch, and a turn around the dance floor to a good song. Until we meet again. Due to his love of animals, expressions of sympathy can be made as donations in Bruce's name to the Kitchener - Waterloo Humane Society. Private cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Henry Walser Funeral Home 519-749-8467.

We had many fun times with Bruce and Karen years back when we worked at the Region of Waterloo and with the slo-pitch team. Great memories and Bruce's smile, laugh and sense of humour are fresh in our minds and hearts. A wonderful couple.

Bruce, your smile and laughter lit up a room. I still remember your wedding day - I was 4 and was miserable with a head full of curlers sitting on the front steps at Woodmount. You came over and gave me a hug and talked about the day ahead. You were a big tease, full of life and if ever you started to get too serious there was a smile to follow. Will miss you.

My Dear Bruce. Although my heart is aching at the thought of never seeing you again and hearing that hearty and heartfelt laugh, which always happened, along with the smiles and hugs, when we got together as much as possible, living in different cities, a life-long friendship will keep you close to me, until we meet again. As a child I especially remember our trips to Minden on Mountain Lake where we shared cottages and good times with our parents. Such fun we had! Later, as adults, your love of Bouviers, resulting in having and loving 5 of them, began when you first met our Bouvier, Bessie! After that, this was the only Breed of Dog for you. But, without a doubt my fondest memory of you, is showing up, in a kilt, thrilled to be a part of my husband´s Robbie Burns Dinners, where we laughed and danced into the "wee hours" of the morning! Memories I will always cherish Love Cathy

I was one of the kids that used to ask if Bruce could come out and play. Going to Pineridge with Bruce and Karen and having fun were some of the best times I've had. There was no shortage of laughing and fun when Bruce was around. Sitting around the fire, having a drink (when I was older) talking about the oldies, Three Stooges, old tv and radio show was always great. Its been a few years since the last time I saw you, but knowing that we'll never be able to hang out around the fire and make fun of..... anything is going to be a drag. Hopefully we'll meet again some sunny day.

I was one of the kids that asked if Bruce could come out and play. It was always great going to Pineridge with Bruce and Karen. He had a great sense of humor, and always wanted to have fun. Hanging out around the fire, having a drink with him (when I was older) and joking around with him were some of the best memories I have. Talking about the old days, listening to the oldies on the radio. Always loved talking about the Three Stooges, the Beatles, old radio and tv shows. having fun and laughing was so easy when he was around. I'll have a drink or two in your honor. Hope the link works:

Uncle Bruce, well great Uncle Bruce.

Thank you for always taking the time for us in your life. We will miss the games and laughter and especially going to the Santa Claus parades. But I think what we will miss most of all was the constant mystery of the missing tooth.

We love you and we miss you.

Uncle Bruce, I am going to miss you that is for sure. Countless memories growing up as your nephew. You were a major piece of the McNaughton Clan who took the time for everyone. One day we will meet again and the stories will continue and the laughter will of course be infectious. Of course this will all be done with some bricks of good cheese and the best scotch. I will miss our talks, our laughs and of course our Scotch Club Shinanigans with our tunes. Thank you for being apart of my life and the support you gave. I will miss you and I will not have a scotch again without thinking of you and remembering all the laughter we shared first as family and as I grew up, as friends. In closing, I love you, I will miss you whole heartedly and when the day come to where I join your new scotch club in the sky, have the dram glasses ready. Til that day, have a drink on me..

Love
David
