Dorothy Mogk Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the family of Dorothy Joan Mogk announces her passing on June 1, 2021, at Hospice Wellington due to complications from acute leukemia. Born on October 5th (a date she celebrated annually with Rob Eccles for over 45 years) to Nora (Askwith) and Walter Stumpf in Swift Current, SK. Beloved wife of Earl Walter Mogk for over 51 years who predeceased her on December 26, 2013. Lovingly remembered by her children Jennifer, Susan (Jeff) Melnyk, all of Guelph and John (Krista) of Ottawa. Cherished Grandma of Kyla and Megan, Ainsley, Jessica, and Riley. She is also survived by her sister Beverley (Ed) Beitz and sisters-in-law Isabel Graul and Jackie Gray. Predeceased by Earl's siblings and their spouses: Clarence (Dorothy) Mogk, Viola (Clayton) Luckhardt, Florence (Earl) Gropp, Paul (Laurene) Mogk, Harvey (Mae) Mogk, William Mogk, Cameron Graul, Dorothy (Ray) Heipel, Jeanie (Allen) McLeod, and Andy Gray as well as by her dear friend Kaye Clarke. Dorothy taught English and French in London, Kitchener, Scarborough and Guelph, a job she loved. Upon retirement, she volunteered in two schools and with the Girl Guides of Canada as a Brownie and Guide leader training coordinator and in the Guide Store. She was a lover of animals especially her many miniature schnauzers over the years. Dorothy was a charter member of Chapters L and P of the PEO Sisterhood and strongly supported its education goals for women. She was also a member of All Saints Lutheran/Anglican Church, Retired Women Teachers and Probus Club of Guelph. Dorothy and Earl were avid travelers to many parts of the world and were particularly fond of Europe and Australia. In addition, they visited all ten provinces and 50 states. They especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cottage on Four Mile Lake for many years. A special thanks to Dr. Geurtjens and nurse Ann of Guelph, Dr. Bonnie McCarron, oncology pharmacist Mona Abdallah and the staff at Grand River Hospital, drivers, kind friends and the numerous unknown blood donors. Those wishing to make a contribution in Dorothy's memory are asked to consider one of the following: Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, All Saints Lutheran/Anglican Church, the Foundation of Guelph General Hospital, or a charity of their choice. A private family burial will take place, the Reverend Canon Fran Darlington officiating. A memorial gathering will be arranged at a future date when conditions permit. We were saddened to hear about Dorothy’s passing. When visiting our friends Lu and Rob Eccles, we had the joy of meeting this lovely lady. As a surprise on Rob’s 70th birthday, Dorothy hid us at her home until the party. We appreciated her kindness, her warmth, and wonderful hospitality. Sincere condolences to Dorothy’s family.
