Douglas Thomas SCOTT

Doug was anxious and ready to join his first love, Mary, who predeceased him by 20 years. He passed away peacefully, pain free and surrounded by his family on Sunday June 5, 2022, at the Grand River Hospital Freeport Site.
Doug will be sadly missed by his family and friends, and he will be forever remembered by his loving children, Steven (Kristine), Tim (Debbie), Linda Gallina (Dan), and Kathy Maier (Chris). He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Jacob Scott (Jenny Gruber), Lucas Scott, Conor Scott (Emily Williamson), Ashley Freeman (Chris), Meg Yates (Matt), Myra Shickluna-Scott, and Thomas Scott. And he will be sadly missed by his great-grandchildren, Calen and Averie Freeman, and Lexi, Charlee, and Leo Yates. Doug was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary (Boyle) Scott and his brothers Bruce and Don and his sister Joyce (Gray).
Doug started his working life as a banker, and that career had his family travelling all around southern Ontario. After he left the bank, he owned several different grocery stores. In those stores he could use his social skills. He loved to chat with and get to know his patrons and people in the wider community from the small towns of Drayton and Paisley. He loved talking to everyone that came through the doors; he loved to tease them almost as much.
His family would like to thank the amazing nurses and Dr. Schwartz from the Palliative care unit at Freeport Hospital for the outstanding care they provided Doug while he was there. They went above and beyond and made his stay as comfortable as possible.
A private funeral service was held with immediate family on Friday, June 10th.
